Week 6 of the NFL season is officially in the books. Here’s a weekly look back at the week that was in the NFL.
1 if by Land 2 if by Air
In the shootout victory for the Tennessee Titans over their division rivals the Texans, it was the Derrick Henry show. The reigning NFL Rushing Title winner clinched that title in the Week 17 matchup against the Texans. On Sunday, he tallied 212 yards on the ground, with two touchdowns. Those scores included a 94-yard run where he was virtually untouched as well as the game-winning 5-yard touchdown in overtime. He also had a 53-yard reception on a screen pass on that game-winning drive. Henry began the day 100 yards off the lead in rushing yards this season.
3 if by Sea, Rather Rivers
After falling behind to the Cincinnati Bengals 21-0, the Indianapolis Colts behind Philip Rivers responded with a 21 point second quarter. The Colts went on to win 31-27 to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Fresh Set of Wheels
Julio Jones has battled an ankle injury all season prior to Sunday. Proving that he still can be a dangerous receiver in the NFL, Jones had eight receptions for 137 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Falcons’ first win of the season.
First Team Dub, Against the Team
The Giants, in their 177th meeting against the Washington Football Team, held on for a one-point victory to get their first win of the season, and the first for coach Joe Judge. They were helped by Ron Rivera going for two and the win late in the game and failing.
Same Can’t be Said
The Miami Dolphins defeated the New York Jets dropping them to a dismal 0-6. Thanks to Ryan Fitzpatrick and running back Myles Gaskin, who became the first Dolphin to eclipse the 100 yards rushing mark since December of 2018. With a 24-0 lead with two minutes left, Tua Tagliova took his first NFL snap. On the bright side for the Jets is they currently have some possession of the Number 1 pick in the Draft. And their next three games are against the Bills, Chiefs, and the Patriots.
Put Mustard on it, and Ketchup
In their first trip to Heinz Field since the Myles Garrett helmet wielding attack, the 4-1 Cleveland Browns were taking on the 4-0 Pittsburgh Steelers, in one of the marquee matchups of Week 6. Unfortunately for the Browns, they were outmatched and dominated from the second the game started. The Steelers won 38-7, setting up a battle of undefeated teams in Week 7 in Nashville against the Titans, four weeks after it was originally supposed to be played.
This one’s for the Birds
The Baltimore Ravens led the Philadelphia Eagles 24-6 at the end of the third quarter. Carson Wentz and the Eagles battled back and fell just a two-point conversion from tying the game with under two minutes remaining.
Hot Start Chilled
Aaron Rodgers, who had zero interceptions coming into the Week 6 matchup against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, threw two on back to back drives. The first was a pick-six, while the second set up the Buccaneers’ second touchdown of the day. It was the first time since Week 15 of 2017 that Rodgers threw two interceptions. The Buccaneers won the game.
Two L’s in Allen and Bills
In a rare Monday afternoon matchup, the Kansas City Chiefs were in Western New York to take on the Buffalo Bills. The defending Super Bowl champs, behind their running game and a pair of touchdown hookups between Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, handed Josh Allen and the Bills their second straight loss after starting the season 4-0.
Life Without Dak
In their first game since losing Dak Prescott for the season, the Dallas Cowboys hosted the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night. Ezekiel Elliot was expected to step up for the offense. He put the ball on the ground twice leading to 14 points for the visitors. Back up quarterback Andy Dalton was under duress all game long. The Cowboys lost 38-10, but hope is not lost as they do play in the NFL East, where six wins may just be good enough to win the division.
