Dak Prescott’s first 500-yard game was not enough as the Cleveland Browns scored 49 points against a ghosted Dallas Cowboys defense.
Dak’s Big Day
Prescott is setting NFL records every Sunday, but records don’t mean anything if they don’t convert to wins. Prescott is the first to throw over 450-yards in back-to-back games and lose. He’s on an incredible hot streak and proving he is an elite quarterback. However, it all gets swallowed up by the fact that the defense simply can’t stop anything. Prescott won’t blame the loss on the defense. “We get two back-to-back possessions, and we turn the ball over…that’s just unacceptable and that’s not complementary football,” Prescott said afterward.
The Cowboys turned the ball over on consecutive offensive plays. Myles Garrett knocked the ball out of Prescott’s hand as he attempted to throw. Then the next possession, Ezekiel Elliott fumbled the ball after a strong run. With the offensive talent, the Cowboys will never be completely out of a game. They still scored 38 points, which is enough to win the majority of the time.
The Browns Answer
The Browns did what they needed to do. They scored touchdowns after each turnover. Baker Mayfield commanded and had complete control of the surging offense. The Browns were capable of running, throwing, and setting up trick plays to perfection. The Cowboys defense is null and will need an extreme makeover to turn this season around.
Nick Chubb got hurt early in the game, but D’Ernest Johnson and Kareem Hunt stepped in and the Browns offense didn’t skip a beat. Johnson had 95 rushing yards and Hunt also had 71 yards on the ground. Even Odell Beckham Jr. carried the ball twice for another 50 yards. The Cowboys defense allowed the Browns to rush for a total of 307 yards and 202 yards in the air.
Cooper and Zeke
Amari Cooper had 134 yards but something didn’t seem right at the end of the game. It appeared he was “short-arming” catches and his effort wasn’t near his max potential. It’s possible he was fatigued or didn’t think the ball would be thrown his way. Unless something appears on the injury report this year, there’s nothing to stress about with Cooper’s character. A simple glitch on a couple of plays is nothing to make a big deal out of. Prescott threw to nine different players. He can spread the ball and can pick the defense apart. Prescott is playing on the next level and it’s a significant blow to have the defense take Prescott out of the game. Elliott had 54 yards for the day on the ground on 12 carries but had 24 yards on one carry. Until the Cowboys can take the lead and maintain the lead, Prescott will air it out all day and limit Elliott’s touches.

It’s no secret, the Cowboys defense has to figure something out quickly. An abrupt change has to happen to give this team any shot at the playoffs. The Browns have built momentum after a couple of big wins and have a lot of positives to watch on film this week.
Joe Looney was injured on the first play of the game with a knee injury and was unable to return. The Browns are cautiously optimistic about Chubb’s injury and he will undergo an MRI soon.
The Browns will play the Indianapolis Colts next week and the Cowboys will play their second straight home game and their first divisional game against the New York Giants.
