7&7: First Call For The Second Half

John Supowitz| July 24th, 2019

DJ LaMehieu – Second Base – New York Yankees

Hopefully, La Machine thanks me after the end of the season with all the promotion I’ve been giving him. Just like the weather this weekend the man stayed hot. He batted .423 this week and has only been hitless in one game since the end of the all-star break, and 27 of his last 29 games.

Ramon Laureano – Centerfield – Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics are not supposed to win: small market, no big-money superstars, but every year they find a way to win. If the season ended today, they would be in the wild card game for the second year in a row. Laureano has been a big reason as he currently leads the team in AVG and RBI, This week, led the American League in hits with 13 and posted .481 AVG.

Anthony Rizzo – First Base – Chicago Cubs

The NL Central is an exciting three-team race, and right now The Cubs have a slight advantage. The Cubs first baseman is one of the most consistent players, and he’s proving it again this year with a .293 AVG and just five home runs shy of matching last year’s total. A .500 AVG has him leading the NL to go along with nine RBI.

Christian Yelich – Outfield – Milwaukee Brewers

Speaking the NL Central races, Yelich has the Brewers in the hunt. The defending NL MVP continues his dominance into the second half as he batted .409 this and led the National League in OPS with 1.445.

Trey Mancini – Outfield – Baltimore Orioles

Because the Orioles are, well, the Orioles, Mancini gets lost in the shuffle. The man is legitimate, and when the Orioles become contenders again, Mancini will be in the spotlight. He led all of baseball in OPS (1.485), and SLG (1.045), and tied for the league lead in home runs with four thanks to a two-HR game twice.

Teoscar Hernandez – Outfield – Toronto Blue Jays

Although along with Mancini, Hernandez’s team is way behind in the playoff race, he was in the front of the best in American League. Behind Mancini, Hernandez was second in OPS (1.458), SLG (1.000), tied in home runs, but had the upper in AVG with .381.

Keston Hiura – Second Base – Milwaukee Brewers

He and Yelich went toe to toe this week as the Brewers best hitter. The two tied this week with a .536 AVG, but Hiura had the slight advantage in AVG (.480 vs .409) and hits (13 vs. 9).
