Week 9 was full of monster breakouts and disappointing busts. Stars like Dalvin Cook stayed hot while elite backs like James Conner failed to live up to expectations. Reflecting on Sunday’s games, whose fantasy stock increased and decreased the most?
3 Up:
Drew Lock – QB – 30.2 PPR Points
After leading the Broncos to an impressive comeback over the Chargers in Week 8, Lock stayed hot on Sunday, racking up 30-plus points in a shootout against Atlanta. He has now entered starting-caliber territory as Denver’s offense continues to improve.
D.J. Chark – WR – 27.6 PPR Points
After a disappointing streak of games, Chark found life with new quarterback Jake Luton under center for the Jaguars. He caught seven balls for 146 yards and a touchdown, including a monster 74-yard score at the beginning of the game. If Luton remains Jacksonville’s starting quarterback, Chark could have legitimate WR3/Flex value moving forward.
Curtis Samuel – WR – 26.8 PPR Points
Samuel has been trending up for a few games, but many assumed his hot streak would end with Christian McCaffrey returning for the Panthers. That proved not to be the case, as he racked up 118 yards and a touchdown on 12 total touches. With McCaffrey dealing with a new shoulder injury, Samuel will likely remain firmly involved in Carolina’s offense.
3 Down:
Melvin Gordon – RB – 3.7 PPR Points
For the second-straight game, Phillip Lindsay significantly ate into Gordon’s workload. Neither of the Broncos backs were able to effectively produce, casting doubt on their rest-of-season fantasy prospects. Gordon is no longer a must-start running back; it’s hard to play him confidently given the uncertainty of his future workload.
Rob Gronkowski – TE – 1.2 PPR Points
After Gronkowski appeared to return to elite form, he took a backseat to other weapons in the Buccaneers’ offense Sunday night, catching just one ball for two yards. With Antonio Brown joining the already crowded Tampa Bay receiving corps, there might be too many mouths to feed in that offense for Gronk to consistently produce.
Tyler Lockett – WR – 8.0 PPR Points
Following recent trends, Lockett was due for a huge game on Sunday. Instead, he only caught four balls for 40 yards. The Seahawks veteran exploded in Week 7 for 53 points but aside from that game, he has failed to score over 10 since Week 3. D.K. Metcalf has clearly emerged as Russell Wilson’s primary target, leaving Lockett as an unreliable fantasy asset (despite his WR2 PPR ranking) moving forward.
