It’s that time of year again. Here are three burning questions for the Washington Redskins.
What will Haskins show in Year 2?
The 15th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Haskins saw limited action in his rookie season. Dwayne Haskins only started seven games for the Redskins under center. He went 2-5 in those starts and tallied just over 1,300 yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.
His first victory as a starter was mocked as he was busy taking selfies with fans while the game-winning field goal was being kicked.
Many thought Haskins should take his lumps earlier in his rookie season like Daniel Jones did in New York. However, head coach Jay Gruden didn’t see it that way. After Gruden was fired, the decision was finally made to see what Haskins had on the pro level.
One of those few bright spots on this team last season was rookie wide receiver and Ohio State teammate of Haskins, Terry McLaurin. He will look to help his quarterback develop further in their sophomore years. The team also brought in veteran receiver Cody Latimer for a veteran presence in the receiving game.
Will Young be the unanimous Rookie of the Year?
The best player in the entire 2020 NFL Draft, Chase Young joins a front seven in Washington that now features five first-round picks (Young, Montez Sweat, Ryan Kerrigan, Jonathan Allen, and Da’Ron Payne).
The addition of former Chiefs cornerback Kendall Fuller will solidify the secondary and allow Young to take chances.
Young will look to make it back-to-back for Ohio State players to win the Rookie of the Year Award following Nick Bosa in 2019, as well as four out of the last five (Marshon Lattimore and Joey Bosa).
Is Rivera the answer?
Former Panthers head coach Ron Rivera is now the head coach in D.C. He reunited with his former players in Carolina and along with the veterans should mentor the front seven on the field, including Young. The defense will be much improved and the load on the offense will be lighter.
Although they aren’t ready for a playoff push yet, the Redskins could very well finish .500.
