3 Burning Questions: Philadelphia Eagles

It’s that time of year again. Here are three burning questions for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Is it make-or-break time for Wentz?

Quarterback Carson Wentz set a career-high with 4,039 yards passing and 27 touchdowns last season. Although the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft possesses a Super Bowl ring, he has yet to win a playoff game as he lost his sole contest last season to Russell Wilson and the Seahawks.

In prior years, Wentz was either hurt late in the season or suffered from a depleted receiving corp that was the worst in football.

Healthy veteran receivers DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery along with 21st overall pick Jalen Reagor are all healthy and ready to make their mark in the passing game in 2020. The team also traded for former 49ers wideout Marquise Goodwin.

If Wentz fails yet again to lead his team to at least one playoff victory, the fans in the City of Brotherly Love will begin to show their disdain in the stadium and on the local airwaves. Perhaps they will even be calling for second-round pick Jalen Hurts to get his shot.

Was Sanders’s rookie season a fluke?

Rookie running back Miles Sanders tallied over 1,300 scrimmage yards and six total touchdowns last season. Saquon Barkley‘s former backfield mate at Penn State, Sanders proved the Nittany Lions can recruit running backs who appropriately translate to the NFL.

Aside from the after-effects of a nagging injury, Sanders won’t suffer from any sophomore slump. Rather, he’ll prove he was nothing short of a steal at 53rd overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.

What will their new-look defense look like?

Malcolm Jenkins is now in New Orleans but the Eagles made up for that loss by signing former Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman and acquiring ex-Lions veteran Darius Slay.

The front seven still includes Fletcher Cox and T.J. Edwards. They also added former Steelers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave up front. Philadelphia spent a handful of their draft picks on linebacker and secondary depth and also prioritized the unit in the undrafted free agent market.
