3 Burning Questions: New Orleans Saints

It’s that time of year again. It’s time for the three burning questions series. Here are three burning questions for the New Orleans Saints.

Did Brees really need another weapon?

Future Hall of Famer Drew Brees already has the best receiver in football in Michael Thomas. Last season, the three-time Pro Bowl selection set a new NFL receptions mark with 149. He finished the season with 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns.

Two-time Pro Bowl receiver Emmanuel Sanders signed with the Saints this offseason after he was a pivotal piece for the 49ers’ offense after they acquired him from the Broncos. Although he only finished with a combined 869 yards receiving and five touchdowns, he is a three-time 1,000 yard receiver.

This duo should be exciting to watch, especially with Brees slinging the ball.

Can the defense be a stout one?

The front seven for the New Orleans defense has been consistently good. It helps when you have proven veterans Cameron Jordan, Sheldon Rankins, Kiko Alonso, and Demario Davis as part of that unit.

Last season, the secondary was susceptible to giving up the big play, but when the offense can put up points like this one can, it’s not always crucial. With the likes of Julio Jones, Mike Evans, and Chris Godwin in their division, lockdown defense is no easy task for the secondary.

The Saints added former Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins to complement Marshon Lattimore and Janoris Jenkins, who they claimed off of waivers from the Giants in December. This unit will be drastically improved from last season.

Can Kamara go four-for-four?

For the third time in his first three seasons, Alvin Kamara was a Pro Bowl selection in 2019 after he posted a combined 1,300-plus yards from scrimmage.

Many skeptics thought the third-round draft pick in 2017 would struggle last season after the departure of former backfield partner Mark Ingram. Instead, Latavius Murray joined the Saints to fill the Ingram-type role and totaled 872 total yards and six touchdowns.

All the regular-season success, accolades, and record-setting this team and the players on it have compiled have not translated into postseason success and Super Bowl appearances.
