If you think that Washington’s team is always in a never-ending cycle of rebuilding, you might be right. The Wizards have been near the bottom of the NBA for a few years now and no one is expecting anything from them anymore.

Now that they are assured of missing the 2024-25 NBA postseason, it’s time to see some of their highlights and look forward to what fans can watch out for.

Rare Winning Streak

Winning three games in a row in early February was definitely an unexpected treat for their faithful followers. What made it even better and more memorable was the fact that it ended a 16-game losing streak. Bilal Coulibaly’s all-around play and Corey Kispert’s scoring prowess were instrumental during that run.

Under New Management

Meet Will Dawkins. He is concluding the second year of his stint as general manager. Why should we pay attention to this? Well, it’s because he previously worked for the Oklahoma City Thunder. If there’s someone who can rebuild the Wizards from scratch and turn them into contenders like the Thunder, then Dawkins is the right man.

Young Core

Jordan Poole, the team’s designated scorer and shooter, will be 26 years old when next season starts. The other supporting players like Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, and Kyshawn George are well below that age. Similar to how the Thunder squad was before, their front office now has a nice, young group to build on.

Veteran Presence

Marcus Smart became a Wizard last February and stories about how he is helping his younger teammates have been circulating. He accepted the role of mentor quite well. The team is happy that someone like Smart can teach and share things he learned while being in the league for more than a decade.

NBA Draft Choice

If there’s one thing to look forward to when your team is at the bottom, it’s the NBA Draft. The chance to grab a player that could significantly change the course of the team’s rebuilding process will always bring excitement. This year, the talk has been about tanking for Cooper Flagg.
