When head coach Gregg Popovich left the team to recuperate from a mild stroke, you knew right away that the season was over.
While the Spurs’ season was gloomy, fans can always look back at the bright spots while hoping for a better tomorrow.
The Fox
A trade brought the Spurs a clutch scorer in De’Aaron Fox. The quick and agile Fox is going to give defenders a tough time. Aside from scoring, he is good for around six assists per game. Now, he gets to be mentored by Chris Paul, and that will only elevate his game.
The Victor
In the last two years, we saw the worst Victor Wembanyama is ever going to be, and that is because he is just going to improve from here on out. That is scary to think about for opponents. A big Year 3 is coming up for Wembanyama and the Spurs.
The Castle
Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle was expected to be a bench player, but the team realized that he could do well as a starter. His steady play proved that he was always ready when called upon. His popularity soared, too, because of the All-Star Weekend. He won MVP of the Rising Stars Challenge and was the second-best performer behind Mac McClung in the dunk contest.

The Heat Check
In basketball, there are times when a random player gets the “hot hand” during the game. Just ask Sandro Mamukelashvili what that felt like. In a game against the New York Knicks, he scored 34 points in 19 minutes by missing only one shot on 14 field-goal attempts. It also helped that he went 7-for-7 from three-point land.
The King-Sized Win
The Spurs had an early December win against the Sacramento Kings. Wembanyama notched his first triple-double of the season, Devin Vassell came off the bench to score 21 points in 24 minutes, and the team overcame a 17-point first-quarter deficit. Additionally, they made 23 three-pointers and needed each one of those for the comeback win.
