Chelsea Signs Raheem Sterling Away from Manchester Cityby Alex Al-Kazzaz July 14, 2022 0 comments
Chelsea has completed its first signing of the Todd Boehly era. Raheem Sterling has officially departed Manchester City and is now with Chelsea. The 27-year-old English midfielder has signed a five-year deal with the club. According to Fabrizio Romano, the move is official and fully confirmed. Sterling joins Chelsea on a £47.5 million fee.
Sterling arrived at Manchester City from Liverpool back in 2015 for an initial fee of £44 million. With Manchester City, Sterling helped the club win four Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and five EFL cups. In addition, he helped Manchester City win the FA Community Shield in 2019 and reach the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League final where they were the runners-up. Furthermore, Sterling scored a total of 131 goals and provided 95 assists in 339 games.
What Does Sterling Bring to the Table?
Last season, Chelsea finished third in the Premier League in goals scored with a total of 76. Chelsea’s top scorer in the Premier League was Mason Mount with 11 goals. Mount was the only player in the club who scored more than 10 times in Premier League play. Overall, Romelu Lukaku was the club’s top scorer last season in all competitions with a total of 15 goals.
While it is clear that while Chelsea had a respectable season with respectable statistics, they certainly had to improve their scoring ability. In order to improve the scoring, the offensive attack must improve as a whole. With Sterling joining the squad, his skills provide more strength that can help the Chelsea attack control the ball, create more scoring chances, and perhaps put the ball into the back of the net more often.
Could Chelsea be in for a Great Season?
Chelsea has an elite depth of unique, and exciting talent. Also, they have a brilliant manager in Thomas Tuchel. There is no doubt that the club will be fun to watch. The results on the pitch will decide whether their progress is positive or negative.
Last season, Chelsea won the UEFA Super Cup as well as the FIFA Club World Cup. In addition, they were the runners-up in both the FA Cup and EFL Cup final. Furthermore, their Champions League title defense ended in the quarterfinals.
If Chelsea enters this season determined and motivated to win, there’s little doubt they will do great. There is certainly no doubt that they will compete for titles, including the Champions League. The only way the club can prove itself is on the pitch. For Chelsea it’s about results, and most importantly, it’s about winning.
