MLB DFS 6/22: Wednesday Wingers and Free Swingers

MLB DFS 6/22: Wednesday Wingers and Free Swingers

by June 22, 2022 0 comments

Welcome back, my fellow MLB DFS desperados. It’s a nine-game slate in baseball tonight beginning at 7:05pm EDT, with plenty of value options for your lineups. We got some huge performances on Monday. Yu Darvish and Corbin Burnes were on point, while Andrew Benintendi and Oneil Cruz carried the lumber. There’s no time like the present to put some cash in your pocket, so let’s get to some more recommendations. Favorite value picks are below. At the end, I’ll list another player at each remaining position. Finding a combination of these guys could land you a well-rounded lineup.

Make sure to bookmark our DFS page for our daily lineup picks.

***All prices listed are from DraftKings***

Value on the Hill

Sonny Gray – vs Cleveland ($8,900)

Gray has only started eight games this season, but he’s avoided many pitfalls while striking out 42 batters in 38.2 innings. He has yet to allow more than two earned runs in any start in 2022, and has blanked his opponent three times. The Guardians present a bit more of a challenge than some of his other opponents, but Gray is on a roll. He’s logged all three of his wins in his last four games, and the fourth was a tough luck no decision against Seattle where he did not allow a run. For the season, Gray is rocking a 2.09 ERA and a miniscule 0.93 WHIP while looking in control of each start. The 32-year-old should continue his winning ways tonight.

Best Pairing: Michael Wacha – vs Detroit ($6,800)

Steal city here at $6.8K The Tigers are dead last (by a long shot) in runs per game with 2.87 per contest. Away from home, the number drops even further to 2.19/game. Wacha is pitching extremely well and will have no trouble with Detroit.

Value in the Field

Rowdy Tellez, 1B – vs St. Louis ($3,900)

Tellez can be a bit of a boom/bust proposition, but I like the “boom” factor at home against Adam Wainwright. The St. Louis righty has had some of his worst games at Miller Park. In fact, in his last two starts there alone, he’s allowed seven earned runs in a total of nine innings (6.75 ERA) with a 2.25 WHIP. The Brew Crew batted .391, had an OPS of 1.081, and had an unheard of .457 BAbip. I’m counting on the lefty Tellez, Christian Yelich, and the rest of the gang in Milwaukee to jump all over him again. For the season, Tellez is batting .253 with 24 runs scored, while knocking 10 balls over the fence and driving in 39.

Oneil Cruz, SS – vs Chicago Cubs ($2,700)

Rookies will have their ups and downs and certainly go through some cold spells. The people that price DFS know this, and they’re banking on people jumping on the train and seeing him put together a few 0-for-4s. With that said, as long as he keeps being such a bargain that I can spend some money elsewhere, I’ll keep plugging him in. Cruz has started the last two games and gone 3-for-9 with two runs scored, four RBI, and a stolen base. Keegan Thompson is a capable pitcher for the Cubs, but the value here is too good to pass up.

Ian Happ, OF – at Pittsburgh ($3,500)

Speaking of the Cubs, this is a bargain price for the switch-hitting Happ. He has a hit in nine of his last 10 games, and four of those were the multi-hit variety. Everyone knows that he’s able to stuff the stat sheet on any given night, and tonight he’ll tap the plate against Jerad Eickhoff, a 31-year-old veteran who has been in Triple-A all season. He had four starts in 2021 for the New York Mets, where he coughed up a 8.69 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. Look for Chicago to pour it on in Pittsburgh. For the season, Happ is sporting a cool .288 average and .834 OPS. He’s smacked seven ding-dongs, scored 31 times while driving in 32, and has stolen five bases. Great price point yet again.

Three guys under $4,000 each and some quality pitchers at good prices will allow you some money to spread around on your favorites. Below are my other preferred picks for tonight.

Other favorite plays: Willson Contreras (C – CHC), Andres Gimenez (2B – MIN), Nolan Arenado (3B – STL), Trey Mancini (OF – BAL), Aaron Judge (OF – NYY)

Best of luck with all of your lineups tonight. Let’s find us a pot of gold and raise the stakes next time out.
