MLB DFS 6/19: Jacks and Aces

by June 19, 2022 0 comments

We are back again with another edition of MLB DFS, as we have a great eight-game slate starting at 1:35 p.m. EDT on DraftKings. There are some aces on the hill for their ball clubs and we will see some baseballs jacked out of the park. Let’s dive into some aces to hit on and lumberjacks who could go yard today. Also, Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful fathers out there.

The Aces

Lock: Sandy Alcantara ($10,500)

While most of the arms in this slate don’t have too favorable of matchups, Alcantara has been terrific. He is an early NL Cy Young candidate and is the best pitching option even on the road at Citi Field. In 13 starts, the right-hander has posted a 1.68 ERA, 2.96 FIP, and 82 strikeouts in 91 1/3 innings. He hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in eight straight starts while striking out 56 in 60 1/3 innings. In fact, he has only allowed more than two earned runs once, when he surrendered five runs against the Seattle Mariners on May 1. Against the Mets in his career, the 26-year-old holds a 2.82 ERA with 63 strikeouts in 67 innings and has averaged over 20 DraftKings MLB DFS points per start.

Value: Corey Kluber ($8,100)

Staying healthy was the biggest concern for Kluber and the Tampa Bay Rays this season. Not only has he been able to do that, but the veteran right-hander has been a solid arm through 12 starts. Two of those starts have come against his former team the Yankees, in which he has only allowed one earned run in 12 innings. In his last six starts, the 36-year-old holds a 2.53 ERA with 27 strikeouts to just four walks in 32 innings.

Fade: Nick Pivetta ($9,600)

Despite having solid numbers overall, Pivetta is an easy fade on this slate at this price. He is due for some regression. He has a 4.24 expected ERA and 3.68 FIP versus his actual 3.50 ERA. The right-hander has a pretty low strikeout rate at 23.9 percent as well and gives up hard contact at 44.1 percent. On top of that, Pivetta faces a Cardinals lineup that bashed the Red Sox 11-2 last night. They are an offense that doesn’t strike out much, with their 19.2 percent being the second-lowest in the majors.

The Jacks

Homer Call: Aaron Judge ($6,100)

The AL MVP frontrunner hasn’t jogged the bases in three games, which means he is due. Judge went 0-for-5 in yesterday’s game but had been rolling with eight homers in the previous 17 games while hitting .333 with a .379 ISO and .457 wOBA. There haven’t been many slow points of his season so far, and we shouldn’t expect a big lull. In 14 at-bats against Yusei Kikuchi, Judge has smashed two homers while posting a .429 ISO. He has been worth his expensive price and will go yard today.

Stud: Xander Bogaerts ($5,000)

The Red Sox shortstop has been rolling right along, as he is on a 10-game hitting streak. That has included four multi-hit games, all coming in the last six games. Over his last 17 games, Bogaerts has gone 25-for-64 (.391) with one homer, 10 doubles, a .203 ISO, and a .441 wOBA. At Fenway Park this season, he has posted a .420 wOBA. He and the Red Sox face young right-hander Andre Pallante who hasn’t pitched more than 5 1/3 innings this season. Pallante’s last appearance was in relief so he shouldn’t be expected to go very long.

Stud: Austin Riley ($5,200)

Before going hitless in his last two games, Riley smashed two homers against the Washington Nationals. Against right-handers, he has mashed to the tune of a .231 ISO. Kyle Hendricks toes the slab for the Chicago Cubs who has struggled this season and doesn’t have high strikeout numbers. Riley has a good chance to find the sweet spot against him.

Values: Hunter Renfroe ($3,500), Vidal Brujan ($2,800), Dylan Carlson ($2,700)

Good luck with all of your MLB DFS lineups today.
