2022 Bold Predictions: Los Angeles Chargersby Rephael Negnewitzky June 13, 2022 0 comments
The Los Angeles Chargers failed to clinch a playoff spot for the third consecutive season. Topping a 9-8 season, which landed them fourth in the AFC West, Brandon Staley is hoping for a do-over in his second season as head coach. Their roster is loaded with talent and somehow the Chargers always seem to end up in an unprecedented spot. Thankfully, general manager Tom Telesco made just a few phone calls to smooth out the lumps in the roster, acquiring Khalil Mack from the Chicago Bears and J.C. Jackson from the New England Patriots. Let’s make a few bold predictions for Staley’s group in the upcoming season.

Justin Herbert Wins the MVP Award
As the veteran quarterback class slowly fades, it is time to pass the baton to the up-and-coming field generals. Herbert, for instance, is considered to be one of the most promising quarterbacks in the modern-day era. Throwing for 5,014 yards in 2021 paired with 38 touchdowns, Herbert is just a few drops away from an MVP season. Furthermore, in what would be his third pro season, Staley seems to be all in on the former Oregon quarterback.
The Chargers are Super Bowl Champions
The talent is there and all the Chargers need to do is execute. An offense constructed around their prized quarterback, along with Mike Williams and Keenan Allen as his targets. Defensively, with the additions of Mack and Jackson, Renaldo Hill will have no issue coordinating the defense. While their division may be overpowering, with the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Raiders, the Chargers have a healthy chance to contend. Nonetheless, if Los Angeles can string together a successful season, it wouldn’t be a long shot to compete for a Super Bowl ring.
The Defense Ranks in the Top 10
A defense under the direction of Hill has only improved since their 2021 season. From Mack and Joey Bosa in the front to Jackson and Derwin James manning the secondary. The Charger defense has always been an upside to Staley’s group, yet this season could scratch the top ten. Although, the NFL is full of defensive-minded teams and the Chargers must be at their best in order to compete.
Joey Bosa Finishes Top-10 in Sacks
While shadowing his younger brother Nick Bosa, the Chargers’ edge rusher has been a stud. Topping a 10.5 sack season along with 51 tackles, Bosa will only advance as his game matures. With Mack, Drue Tranquill, and Kenneth Murray applying pressure, the 26-year-old will have a simple task to get to the quarterback. Additionally, if Bosa stays off the injured list, there is no doubt that he can break his sack record.
