What Now for Manchester United?by Alex Al-Kazzaz May 25, 2022 1 comment
A sixth-place finish with 58 points is the worst season in the English Premier League for Manchester United. Another season where the club has gone without winning anything. The Red Devils are not participating in next season’s UEFA Champions League tournament. Humiliating exits from the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, and the Champions League adds salt to the wound. Consequently, the team is far beyond lost.
Last August, Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the club for the first time since 2009. Bringing Ronaldo back honestly did the club no good at all. In November, Ole Gunnar Solskjær was sacked as the team’s manager. Under the management of interim manager Ralf Rangnick, the club did not improve.
Manchester United is now under the management of Erik ten Hag. The club has what it desperately needs; a new beginning.

Where does the club go from here?
Manchester United has been in rebuild mode for five years. During this time, very little to no progress has been made. Furthermore, despite all the money spent on players, the results have been far from satisfactory. Very little to nothing has gone right for the Red Devils. Based on this season’s finish, it’s clear that the team has once again failed to move forward. On a positive note, the club will participate in the Europa League next season.
Anthony Martial is set to return to the club after he was loaned to Sevilla. Furthermore, Donny van de Beek will also return to the club after a loan spell with Everton. No doubt, ten Hag needs to put together a series of formations and playing schemes for his squad. He’ll need to build formations that are suitable for his players so the team can play effectively and put up positive and convincing results. Ten Hag’s team currently lacks passion, motivation, vision, and leadership. As long as those qualities are missing, the team will remain lost.
Right now, there are very little to no expectations for the club. Therefore, the team has to regroup and get to work immediately to prepare for the next season. Manchester United will play four exhibition games in July. The results from the games may show if progress is being made or not.
