MLB DFS 5/16: Manic Money Monday

MLB DFS 5/16: Manic Money Monday

by May 16, 2022 0 comments

Mondays in baseball are typically slim slates with few choices. That’s not the case this week, as we kick off the week with an 11-game MLB DFS slate starting at 7:05pm EDT. There are plenty of value picks available to players today, so let’s not dilly-dally. As always, you’ll find some of those value picks listed here first. Afterwards, there is a list of some favorite heavy-hitting options for filling out your lineups. Time to start this week by adding to our accounts.

Make sure to bookmark our DFS page for our daily lineup picks.

***All prices listed are from DraftKings***

Value on the Hill

Noah Syndergaard – at Texas ($8,500)

Thor is only 1-1 in his last three starts, but has allowed just six total runs in that span. He also carried through that stretch with a 4:1 K/BB ratio. While the righty has not been as dominant as his early years, he’s pitching well after missing nearly all of 2021 post-Tommy John surgery. He comes into this matchup sporting a 3-1 record with a 2.45 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. The Rangers score an average of 3.84 runs at home, which in the lower half of baseball. Look for Syndergaard to have one of his best starts of the season.

Brad Keller – vs Chicago White Sox ($7,200)

The White Sox are even worse offensively than Texas, down near the bottom of the barrel scoring 3.43 runs/game on the road. They can also be prone to striking out. That’s good news for Keller, who doesn’t blow a lot of people away with 22 strikeouts in 36.2 innings. In this game, though, he might set his 2022 season-high. Keller owns a 2.70 ERA to go with a 0.98 WHIP and is a monster value for the price tonight. He’s had one bad start this season (5 earned runs last week against Texas), and is primed for a bounce back performance.

Value in the Field

Paul Goldschmidt, 1B – at New York Mets ($4,700) PIVOT: DJ LeMahieu, 1B/3B – at Baltimore ($4,600)

***The NYM vs STL game has been postponed***

The price doesn’t typically scream “value”, but when you consider the tear that the Cardinals first baseman has been on, it is. He is coming off a 3-for-4 contest against the San Francisco Giants where he completely stuffed the stat sheet. This is not about finding a spark after one game, however. Goldschmidt is on an eight-game hit streak, with five of those featuring multiple hits. He’s raised his OPS to .890, which pairs with a .312 average, four dingers, and 20 runs batted in. In short, he is one of the hottest hitters in the game right now, and nabbing him for under $5,000 is highway robbery.

Jeff McNeil, 2B/OF – vs St. Louis ($3,900) PIVOT: Brendan Rodgers, 2B – vs San Francisco ($4,000)

***The NYM vs STL game has been postponed***

Another day of McNeil costing less than four grand means another day slotting him straight in at second base. I am beginning to sound like a broken record, but the Met has one of the biggest upsides (particularly for a middle infielder) on the slate each day. McNeil is still batting over .300 (.308), has scored 16 times while driving in 14, and has a home run and stolen base to his credit. His triple slash is .308/.369/.419 (a .788 OPS). The matchup with Miles Mikolas is less than stellar, but McNeil is exactly the kind of lineup catalyst that could punch out a couple hits and cross the plate twice.

Mike Yastrzemski, OF – at Colorado ($3,600)

Another high-upside, low-cost play. Yastrzemski has suffered a bit of a power outage in 2022, totaling just a pair of ding-dongs. A trip to Coors Field might be just the thing to help remedy that. With that said, the two home runs does not make the lefthander any less useful in DFS. The 31-year-old still carries a decent OPS of .747 and has gone hitless in just nine of 24 games started. Yastrzemski hit 25 homers a year ago, and it’s only a matter of time for him to put a few more over the fence. I like tonight to be the jumping off point in Colorado.

Stud Finder: Byron Buxton (OF – MIN), Alex Bregman (3B – HOU), Salvador Perez (C – KC), J.P. Crawford (SS – SEA), Cedric Mullins (OF – BAL)

Best of luck with all of your lineups tonight. Time to pad that bankroll.
