MLB DFS An Angel and a Late Tuesday Nightby John Lepore May 10, 2022 0 comments
We did well last night with the late games as our four hitters had an average salary of $3,700 and produced an average of 13 DK points. Excellent bargains I would say. So tonight, I am sticking with the late slate on DraftKings. We have five games again beginning at 9:38 pm EDT. We also have some good pitching matchups. As usual, these are bargains at $4,000 and under which is gold for your DFS lineups if they produce. It also allows you to stack the rest of your lineup with studs. Let’s get to it.

On the Mound
Reid Detmers vs. Tampa Bay Rays ($7,100)
Detmers has been basically learning on the job. After being the 10th selection in the 2020 MLB Draft, he was thrust into the rotation last season and struggled. This year hasn’t been all peaches and cream, but the southpaw has improved, especially with his command. He has lowered his walk rate from 10.9 percent in 2021 to 7.7 percent this season. He has also improved his strikeout rate to nearly 20 percent. The Rays strike out at an even nine times per game. If Detmers has command tonight, he can shut down Tampa Bay.
On the Dirt
Jean Segura, 2B ($3,900)
Segura was a pick last night and rewarded us with a 2-for-4 night and a home run. Let’s go back to the well again. The Phillies’ second baseman faces left-hander Robbie Ray. The Seattle Mariners ace has struggled a bit this season after taking home the AL Cy Young Award in 2021. His strikeout rate has dipped to near 20 percent which is Ray’s worst since 2014. His walk rate has ticked up slightly as well, and Ray has allowed five homers in six starts.
Rhys Hoskins, 1B ($3,700)
This may give you a nice little, cheap, mini stack as Segura should bat sixth with Hoskins batting seventh. Philadelphia’s first baseman broke out of a slump last night going 3-for-5 with a bomb. He also loves facing lefties as he has an .855 OPS against them as opposed to .646 against right-handers.
Nico Hoerner, SS ($3,100)
Hoerner has seven hits in seven games in May and although he went 0-for-4 last night, he did score a run. This is mostly a floor play as he has averaged six DK points in DFS in May. There is a little upside here as Hoerner has a couple of homers and a couple of stolen bases on the season. He faces Mike Clevinger tonight who is making just his second start since recovering from Tommy John Surgery. His command wasn’t sharp in his first outing, and it may take him some time to get back to the pitcher he was. Take advantage.
On the Grass
Ian Happ ($3,600)
Another mini stack may be on the docket here tonight as Hoerner batted sixth and Happ batted seventh last night. After going 1-for-16 in his previous five games, Happ has two hits last night including a double and two RBIs. He should be able to take advantage of Clevinger’s lack of command and may be in for a big game.
Good Luck with all of your DFS lineups.
