MLB DFS May Day Discountsby John Lepore May 1, 2022 0 comments
Welcome back to another Sunday edition of MLB DFS. Today, we are going to grab our discounts for the nine-game early slate on DraftKings. Players who can produce at under $4,000 are the key to making money. Hypothetically, if you spend $18,000 for a couple of star pitchers, that leaves you with an average of $4,000 per player for the rest of your lineup. Of course, you want a few studs hitting as well so these are some guys who will get you a good ROI.
Be sure to check us out daily for our DFS content.
On the Mound
Luis Severino @ Kansas City Royals ($8,500)
The New York Yankees right-hander has pitched well this season. He went six innings last time out and threw 77 pitches against the Baltimore Orioles. It was the first time since 2018 that Severino pitched six innings. He has averaged just over 15 DK points per game. The Royals were shut out last night and scored just two runs on Friday, so they aren’t hitting at all. I like the two top options in Corbin Burnes ($10,200) and Joe Musgrove ($9,600), but Severino saves you some salary and has a great matchup.
Nick Pivetta @ Baltimore Orioles ($6,700)
The Oriole bats have gone quiet as well scoring just three runs in the past two days against Boston. Pivetta has had trouble finding the plate this season walking 13 in his 16.1 innings. He also has allowed four home runs. However, the Orioles have hit only 10 on the year. Only the Detroit Tigers have less in the American League.
Baltimore also has the second-lowest OPS (.604) in the AL, slightly better than the Royals (.593). I like the strikeout upside of Pivetta as he is averaging just about a K per inning and the Orioles have struck out almost 10 times per game. If Pivetta can limit the walks, he can get deep into the game as he threw 98 pitches last time out.
On the Dirt
Rowdy Tellez, 1B ($3,800)
The big left-hander may be getting hot. After being in a 2-for-20 slump, the Brewers came back home to face the Chicago Cubs. It was just what Tellez needed. He blasted his fourth home run last night along with a single and three RBIs. In his four games so far against the Cubs this year, Rowdy has put up 58 DK points. Although he hasn’t faced Marcus Stroman yet, the Brewers first baseman has hit all four of his home runs against right-handers this year.
Gleyber Torres, 2B ($3,400)
Torres may not be showing the overall stats this season slashing just .237/.277/.424, but he is 9-for-24 over his last eight games. The Yankees second baseman has raised his OPS .210 points since April 20 and has driven in seven runs over his last six. He faces young lefty Daniel Lynch today. Torres has rocked lefties this season going 6-for-19 with a 1.000 OPS.
On the Grass
Max Kepler ($3,300)
The Twins right fielder has been hot. he has four multi-hit games over his last six and has hit four home runs. He has gotten on base half the time during that stretch and has also driven in eight runs. He faces lefty Josh Fleming today who has been getting hit hard, allowing opponents to bat .327 against him.
Julio Rodriguez ($3,200)
This is somewhat of a contrarian pick as the youngster is facing Sandy Alcantara in Miami today. However, after starting his career 1-for-18, Rodriguez has slashed a respectable .255/.339/.309 over his last 15 games. While he has yet to hit his first major league home run, J-Rod leads the AL with nine stolen bases. He has an excellent floor and should be a great play in tournaments.
Good luck on your lineups in MLB DFS today.
