After a tough start to the 2021-2022 season, Jake DeBrusk has been a different player of late. Over the last two months, the Boston Bruins have been one of the best teams in the NHL. Their improved play has partly been due to the play of DeBrusk. The former first-round pick has 22 goals this season and has terrorized opponents in recent weeks. With the playoffs quickly approaching, DeBrusk is proving his value.
The Edmonton native has eight points in his last five games while landing 20 shots on net. He has also been a goals machine with five in that span. His play has been a welcoming sign for the Bruins as they now own third place in the Atlantic Division. Due to his recent surge, DeBrusk is having one of the best seasons of his career.
Through 66 games, the Bruins winger has 36 points. That is his highest total since the 2018-2019 campaign and 22 points higher than last season. DeBrusk has also shown a flair for the dramatics with a career-high seven game-winning goals. The 25-year-old has been more aggressive with the puck and is making an impact on a nightly basis. His play has also stood out to Bruce Cassidy.

“Jake’s done a really good job there, especially with [David Pastrnak] out, ” said Cassidy. I thought he was our best forward tonight, in terms of all-around play. He was engaged in the game, trying to be physical on the forecheck and winning pucks, and played a little on the kill. Did a real good job for us. ”
Additionally, DeBrusk is making an impact at both ends of the ice. As the Bruins have gone 4-1 in their last five games, DeBrusk has landed eight hits and blocked one shot. He has been aggressive on the forecheck and was winning puck battles on Friday night against Tampa Bay. That is the player Boston has needed him to be.
While DeBrusk’s future is full of uncertainty, the last few weeks have provided a reminder of his potential. He has four multi-point outings in his last ten games and has arguably been the Bruins’ best player. If he can translate his success to the playoffs, then Boston will not be a fun matchup. Regardless of how far Boston goes in the postseason, DeBrusk has been critical to their improved play.
