Manchester United Results Remain Unconvincing

by January 15, 2022 0 comments

As of late, Manchester United seems stuck in mediocrity. Right now, they sit seventh in the English Premier League title. On January 10th, Man U did manage to advance to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 home win against Aston Villa. However, they are struggling in Premier League play. Soon, Man U will play their first leg against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16. The team is still not in good form.

Since Ralf Rangnick took over as the club’s manager, the style of play, formations, tactics, etc. have all been questionable. In addition, there have been very little to no improvements. Furthermore, under Rangnick, Man U only has one game with multiple goals. It’s safe to say that there’s been almost no change since the sacking of previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

Man U is in a bad position

For the time being, Man U’s position in the standings of the EPL would mean that they would miss out on both the Champions League and Europa League next season if they finish the season at their spot. With only seven EPL games left, Man U needs to start a winning streak and stay on it. More importantly, they need to win games in a convincing fashion. A first-place finish in the EPL is impossible at this point, but a top-four finish remains a possibility. Whether they can finish in top-four or not is entirely up to the team.

On February 4th, Man U plays their next FA Cup game against Middlesbrough. Later next month, Man U plays the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 encounters with Atlético Madrid. They will also play several EPL matches before their big game against Atlético. Right now, Man U doesn’t look capable of getting it done against Atlético, so they need to immediately get to work on turning things around. For Manchester United, playtime is over and it’s time to get serious.
