The 2022 NFL offseason has been a wild one for the Washington Commanders. Aside from all the Dan Snyder drama, the team officially announced their new name, traded for Carson Wentz, and made several intriguing draft selections. What can fans expect from the team this season? While the regular season is still a few months away, let’s dive into four bold predictions for the Commanders.

Terry McLaurin has Over 1,300 Receiving Yards
Despite the merry-go-round at quarterback the past few years, McLaurin has been one of the better wide receivers in the NFL. He had at least 900 receiving yards every year of his career. Furthermore, McLaurin has back-to-back seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards. Moreover, he has averaged 67.2 receiving yards per game in his career. While Wentz is far from the best quarterback in the NFL, he is the best quarterback McLaurin has played with in his career. With an improvement at quarterback, McLaurin will have the best year of his career in 2022.
Cole Holcomb Leads the NFL in Tackles
Last year, Holcomb led the team with 142 total tackles and finished 10th in the NFL. He finished top-10 in total tackles for the first in his career last season. While he played 99 percent of the defensive snaps last season, Holcomb can do even better in 2022. The Commanders are putting more on his plate this season, including making him the full-time play-caller of the defense. Furthermore, Holcomb has extra motivation to perform this season. While McLaurin and Daron Payne are entering the final year of their contracts, Holcomb will also hit the open market next offseason. Holcomb will have a career year in 2022 and earn a new contract.
Antonio Gibson has Under Six Touchdowns
Gibson ended the 2021 season on fire, rushing for 146 yards and a touchdown in Week 18 against the New York Giants. However, he has struggled with injuries in his career. Thus, Washington re-signed J.D. McKissic and used a third-round pick on Brian Robinson. While Gibson has 21 total touchdowns in his two-year career, he had only seven rushing touchdowns last season. With the new additions to the backfield, Gibson will be part of a committee rather than have a featured role. Expect Robinson to take over as the goal line running back, limiting Gibson’s scoring production this season.
The Commanders Win the NFC East
Washington won the NFC East Division in 2020 with a 7-9 record. They caught a few lucky breaks that year between Dak Prescott’s injury and the Philadelphia Eagles giving up an easy win in Week 17 to Washington. The previous two times they made the playoffs were in 2015 with a 9-7 record and 2012 at 10-6. The Commanders won seven games last season despite a slew of injuries and poor quarterback play. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys lost several starters from last year’s team, and the Giants and Eagles have questions surrounding their teams. Will it be easy? No, but Washington has the roster needed to win the division for the second time in the past three years.
