2022 Bold Predictions: Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers have had no shortage of storylines during the 2022 offseason. Set to undergo changes on the offensive side of the ball heading into 2023, the franchise parted with star wide receiver Davante Adams. They shipped the 29-year-old to the Las Vegas Raiders for a first and second-round pick. The team will now rely heavily on a much-improved defense if they hope to get back to the Super Bowl for the first time in over a decade. Able to re-up with two of their crucial pieces for Joe Barry’s group, the Packers inked De’Vondre Campbell and Rasul Douglas to extensions. With the start of the regular season less than 100 days away, here are four bold predictions for Green Bay.

Rashan Gary Breaks Green Bay’s Single Season Sack Record

Gary is fresh off the best season of his young career. He showed glimpses of being a star off the edge after being thrust into a starter’s role following an injury to Za’Darius Smith. The University of Michigan alumn led the team with 9.5 sacks while also recording 47 tackles and two forced fumbles. Earning a grade of 82.3 from Pro Football Focus, the former 12th overall pick has amassed a 21.8 percent win rate since 2020, the third-highest in the NFL behind Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt. Now the undisputed number one pass rusher for Green Bay heading into his fourth year in the league, look for him to have a monster 2023 season. This leaves Tim Harris‘s single-season sack record of 19.5 in serious jeopardy.

Aaron Rodgers Wins His Third Straight MVP Award

Rodgers captured his second straight MVP Award last year. The 38-year-old amassed 4,115 passing yards while tossing 37 touchdowns to just six interceptions. Possessing the opportunity to make history heading into next season, the 18-year veteran can join Brett Favre by becoming the second quarterback in the NFL history to win the award three straight times. Furthermore, he can join Peyton Manning as the only player to capture the honor five times in his career.

Set to have a new group of pass-catchers, the former first-round pick will no longer have his star receiver in Adams at his disposal. Along with this, he will be without Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown after they inked deals with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Chicago Bears. However, if anyone is capable of elevating the play of an unproven group of rookie pass-catchers, it’s Rodgers.

AJ Dillon Finishes Top 10 in the NFL in Rushing Yards

The Packers are set to return both Aaron Jones and Dillon once again in 2023. Combining to form one of the best tandems in the league, both players were highly productive last season by eclipsing the 1,000 scrimmage yards mark. Next year, they will play a heavy role in the offense with a new cast of wideouts in Green Bay. With Jones now 27 years old, look for Dillon to get the majority of the early-down carries as he begins to shift towards an RB1 role. Offering up a complementary skillset to his running mate, the Boston College product has the size and strength to make plays in between the tackles while also having the ability to keep Jones fresh.

Romeo Doubs Leads the Packers in Both Receiving Yards and Touchdowns

Green Bay selected Doubs in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was uber-productive for the Nevada Wolfpack. The 22-year-old finished off his college tenure with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons as one of the most potent deep threats in the nation. Offering up significant size at 6’2, the Los Angeles, California native has exceptional change of direction skills while being slippery after the catch. He is set to pair with second-round pick Christian Watson in a new-look room for the Packers. A more pro-ready receiver, look for him to hit the ground running and develop a quick rapport with Rodgers as one of the go-to guys in Adam Stenavich’s offense.
