In 2021, Triston Casas has been one of the Boston Red Sox’ most talked-about prospects. Over the past week, his stock has continued to rise due to a stellar stretch. The Florida native was unstoppable at the plate and hit five home runs in a two-day span. With the Red Sox struggling, Casas has been a bright spot in a talented farm system.

Since the calendar flipped to September, the Portland Sea Dogs first baseman has been on a sensational run. Casas has hit five home runs while driving in 11 runs in his last three games. Although the Sea Dogs have only played four games in September, Casas is hitting .538. In his last 13 at-bats, he has seven hits. His impressive start to the month has been a welcoming sign and has earned him special recognition.

On Monday, Casas was named the Double-A Northeast League Player of the Week for August 30-September 5. In that span, Boston’s second-best prospect posted a 1.354 SLG and a .571 OBP. In what has been an impressive season for Casas, he’s shown the impact he can make over the past week.

Through 69 games this season, Casas is hitting .283 with 48 RBIs. The Florida native also has 23 extra-base hits and a .387 OBP, his highest mark in the minors. While Casas only has 48 RBIs, he has shown the ability to make adjustments. Additionally, he’s demonstrated that his power is not to be overlooked. On September 3, he hit a baseball that traveled 472 feet. His ninth home run of the year left many in awe as his power looked effortless.

What to Expect From Casas in 2022 and Beyond

While the American Heritage product isn’t projected to be in the majors until next season, the last week has provided a preview of the future. After the 2020 minor league season was canceled, Casas has picked up where he left off. Although he has been streaky at times, the former first-round pick has only hit below .262 in a month once this season. With the minor league season winding down, the 21-year-old is setting himself up for a big 2022 campaign.
