Report: Padres Acquire All-Star Adam Frazier from Pirates

Report: Padres Acquire All-Star Adam Frazier from Pirates

In the seventh inning of a matchup of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Francisco Giants, one of the hottest commodities on the MLB trade market was replaced in the game. Minutes later the news broke why. Pirates All-Star and MLB hit leader Adam Frazier has been traded to the San Diego Padres per multiple industry sources.

The star second-baseman has been hitting .324/.388/.448 with an .836 OPS. The Padres new Swiss Army knife also has four homers and 32 RBI’s along with five stolen bases. He also leads the MLB with 125 hits which are three more than next in line, Trea Turner with 122.

The return going to Pittsburgh is fairly decent although not as large as many thought. Rookie utilityman Tucupita Marcano who made his debut after a scorching spring training is the headliner as he was the Padres #5 prospect. Right-handed pitcher Michell Miliano who is in Class A is another player going to the Pirates in exchange. The final player is Jack Suwinski, a 22-year-old outfielder playing in Double-A.

There is also just over one million dollars being exchanged to the Padres for a better prospect return.

AJ Preller, the Padres GM, has officially entered the trade deadline madness in a big way. Expect the Padres to make a few more moves to help close the gap with the Dodgers and Giants in the NL West.
