England, Scotland Battle to a Scoreless Draw

England, Scotland Battle to a Scoreless Draw

by June 19, 2021 0 comments

The two national teams from England and Scotland know each other very well. It is a rivalry that goes back to 1872. When the two sides meet in a competitive match, the world can be sure that both will fight tooth and nail. Regardless of whether it’s a competitive match or a friendly exhibition, both are always fighting for their pride. This game was the 115th meeting between the two.

England needed to put their longtime adversaries away in order to qualify for the knockout stage. On the other hand, Scotland needed a bounce-back following their humiliating and frustrating loss in their first group game against the Czech Republic. This draw results in Scotland remaining at the bottom of their group with England in second. England can claim the group by defeating the Czech Republic next Tuesday. Scotland must defeat Croatia to finish third and possibly sneak into the next stage.

Scotland truly came out as the better team. The Scots emerged with the intent of giving England a hard time on the pitch, and England was unable to put on a strong performance. Each side had several scoring chances, but could not capitalize. Scotland’s brilliant and solid work on defense and the midfield really did them well. England’s attack was unable to do its job. England was simply not being themselves. Harry Kane, who captains England, didn’t have a good day. England has no choice but to take the win against the Czech Republic.

Although Scotland was the stronger team, this draw doesn’t do them much good. On a positive note, they earn a point, but because they lost their opening game, one point is not much to go on. However, there is hope. Scotland’s participating in the Euro for the first time since 1996, so they are determined to make the most of it. A loss to Croatia guarantees an early exit, so the Scots must find a way to get it done next Tuesday.
