Heller’s Three Burning Questions 3.0: New York Giants

With the 2021 NFL Draft over and the schedule officially being released, it’s time for my third annual 32 part series where the top three questions will be posed for each NFL team. Here are those three questions for the New York Giants.

Be sure to check out all of Heller’s Three Burning Questions.

Show and Prove Season for Daniel Jones?

Year Two for Danny Dimes was a rough one to put it lightly. He suffered tremendously without a running game and his offensive line allowed him to be sacked 45 times. Not many elite quarterbacks would have fared much better. This offseason the team added as much firepower for Jones as they could. Former Cincinnati Bengals receiver John Ross, Matthew Stafford‘s No. 1 receiver with the Detroit Lions Kenny Golladay, Former San Francisco 49ers Dante Pettis and Minnesota Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph are now at his disposal, Combine them with receivers Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard and tight end Evan Engram, who he has spent two seasons building a rapport with. They also selected Florida receiver Kadarius Toney in the first round of the draft.

If Jones is unable to produce with this arsenal, he may suffer the same fate as his former stadium mate, Sam Darnold did, and be shipped out of the Big Apple.

Will Saquon Return to Form?

Running back Saquon Barkley was gearing up to have a bounce-back season, after being slowed in 2019 due to a nagging high ankle sprain, that lasted most of that season. His 2020 season came to a screeching halt in Week 2, when he tore his ACL. The Giants and their young quarterback suffered as a result. They tried to plug in more than a few options to help fill some of the void, with little luck.

Can Last Season’s Bright Spot Shine Again?

Normally a team that finishes four games under .500, doesn’t have much to hang their hat on. Even more so the defense is the most unlikely of bright spots, but that was the case for Big Blue. The defense was the paramount reason that the Giants had an outside chance of stealing the NFC East in Week 17.

They added former Tennessee Titans first-round pick, cornerback Adoree Jackson in free agency. They also boosted the defensive line by adding Lions and Patriots tackle Danny Shelton and Titans tackle Austin Johnson to team up with end Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence upfront. This unit should have an even better season this year.

I can’t wait until you analyze the offensive line and Gettleman’s total failure to strengthen it.
