After getting off to a 1-14 start, Triston Casas has been tearing the cover off the ball. The Boston Red Sox No. 1 prospect had a six RBI night on May 12th and is playing the best baseball of his professional career. In his first taste of Double-A action, he is living up to expectations.
In 11 games this season, Casas is hitting .341 The former first-round pick also has 12 runs batted in and has hit four home runs. Over Portland’s past five games, he has carried the offense as the Sea Dogs have gone 2-3. While they have struggled of late, Casas has been a bright spot in the middle of the lineup.
Additionally, Casas has shown good plate discipline during his hot streak. Over the Sea Dogs’ last six games, he has only struck out four times. In that span, he has 11 hits, and his average has climbed from .182 to .341. The 21-year-old has been an on-base machine and has multiple base hits in four of his last five games. After Casas spent all of 2020 at the Red Sox alternate site, his potential has been on full display. Although he has limited experience, he is in the midst of one of the best stretches of his professional career. Due to his hot streak, Casas leads Portland in RBI’s and batting average. Over the past week, his smooth and fluid swing has terrorized opponents.
Expectations for Casas
While the Red Sox have the most wins in baseball, the progress of Casas will be a storyline to keep an eye on. The Red Sox top prospect is not expected to arrive in the majors until 2022. The Florida native still has some things to work on but benefited from his time at the alternate site last season. He was able to pick up tips from major league veterans and fellow minor leaguers.
Although the minor league season has just begun, the Red Sox prospects are already making noise. As Portland’s pitching has struggled, the offense has been lead by one of baseball’s future stars. With Casas’ major league debut less than two years away, his recent performance has created more excitement for the Red Sox’s future.
