Reaction to Heat’s loss to Grizzlies

by April 7, 2021 0 comments

This is not the way the Miami Heat wanted to play. The Memphis Grizzlies had their way on the offensive end all game long. Miami’s defense had no answer for the Grizzlies’ guard penetration and three-point barrage. Memphis finished the game with a total of 124 points, which is not good. Tuesday’s loss ends the Heat’s four-game win streak. Miami is now 26-25 for the season.

Here are my three takeaways from the Heat’s loss on Tuesday.

Bam starts off hot

Bam Adebayo got off to a hot start converting his first five shots. His first-quarter scoring consisted of drives and jumpers. Bam had 10 points in the first period. He was quiet the rest of the way. The Heat all-star ended the night with a triple-double.

Bam finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Defending Valanciunas

The Heat had trouble defending Jonas Valanciunas down low. The Heat tried fronting the big man but he still caught the ball over the top and scored. He did this multiple times in the first period. He had 15 first-quarter points. The Grizzlies’ center did slow down the rest of the way. He only scored five points over the next three quarters. However, the Grizzlies’ guards stepped up and picked up the scoring slack.

Valanciunas finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Brooks gets hot

With Ja Morant struggling, the Grizzlies got a huge night from Dillon Brooks. Brooks broke the game open with a 23- point third quarter. He did it with an array of drives and three-point shooting. Miami had no answer for Brooks. Brooks was able to drive to the basket with ease. And whenever Miami sagged off of him, he made them pay from beyond the arc.

Brooks finished the night with 28 points.

Next up: The Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday. The game starts at 7:30 pm eastern time on TNT.
