With the NFL’s free agency period officially open, several of the top free agents have already been signed. However, there are a handful of players yet to sign who could make a big impact on their new team. Here are the top five remaining 2020-21 free agents and their most interesting potential destination.
Antonio Brown, Wide Receiver
After a Super Bowl victory with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brown has yet to sign this offseason. Through eight games this past season, Brown caught 45 passes for 483 yards and four touchdowns. While his days as a top-tier wide receiver are over, Brown proved he can still play at a top-level.
If the Buccaneers don’t elect to bring him back, look for Brown to sign with the Seahawks, where he could become the third option for Russell Wilson.
Potential Destination: Seattle Seahawks
James Conner, Running Back
Conner has been plagued with injuries over his career in Pittsburgh, missing at least three games in each of his last three seasons. Regardless, Conner is a bell-cow running back capable of handing double-digit carries and catching the ball out of the backfield. If Conner can stay on the field, he’ll be a solid addition for any team.
Conner’s injury history will hurt his chances of a large contract, but he should still have interest from several teams. Returning to the Steelers on a one-year contract seems to be most likely for Conner at this point.
Potential Destination: Pittsburgh Steelers
Russell Okung, Offensive Tackle
After being traded from the Chargers to the Panthers last offseason, Okung was limited to only seven games this past season due to several injuries. When healthy, the veteran left tackle is a dominant presence on the offensive line and very good at protecting the quarterback.
While a return to the Panthers seems unlikely, Okung could draw interest from the Jets or Bengals, who both are looking to improve their offensive lines.
Potential Destination: New York Jets/Cincinnati Bengals
Melvin Ingram, Defensive End
Ingram played nine seasons with the Chargers, making the Pro-Bowl three consecutive seasons before missing nine games in 2020. Ingram is the best defensive player available in free agency, however, he may not be getting the offers he desires. Nevertheless, Ingram’s versatility as both a pass rusher and linebacker will make him a great addition to any team.
Look for Ingram to return to Los Angeles to continue his domination with fellow defensive lineman Joey Bosa.
Potential Destination: Los Angeles Chargers
Richard Sherman, Cornerback
There’s no doubt Sherman will be signed this offseason, although it is taking longer than expected. Last season with the 49ers, Sherman was limited to only five games due to a calf injury. At this point in his career, Sherman will likely wait out all of his options before taking a small contract on a good team.
At the moment, the Seahawks are still a possibility as they recently lost their top cornerback in Shaquille Griffin. As much as football fans would love to see a Seattle reunion, the best spot for Sherman is in New Orleans where he could take over as their second cornerback.
