Heller Answers His 3 Burning Questions: Chicago Bears

by March 13, 2021 0 comments

Prior to the 2020 NFL season, three questions were posed for each of the 32 teams. This is the recap and answers to those questions for the Chicago Bears.

In Mitch they no longer trust?

Another season with the continuing quarterback question. When the Bears brought in Super Bowl-winning quarterback Nick Foles in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars, it was believed to be the last straw for Mitch Trubisky. When Trubisky struggled, he was benched for a handful of games in favor of Foles. But head coach Matt Nagy reinserted the quarterback after Foles went just 2-5 as the starter.

Trubisky went a combined 6-3 under center and led his team to a wild card spot. Even so, the Bears have been rumored to be in the market for a starting quarterback this offseason. They have been heavily linked to Russell Wilson, as well as Deshaun Watson.

Will the Bears’ defense dominate their opponents again?

The defense in Chicago was not the dominant top-five unit that has become expected through the years, it ranked just 11th in yards given up and 14th in points. The unit kept the team in games giving the offense the chance to win. Khalil Mack led the team with nine sacks.

Is the current backfield combination enough?

Tarik Cohen and David Montgomery were looking to be a formidable one-two punch for the Bears. Cohen went down in Week 3 with a torn ACL and missed the remainder of the season. Montgomery, in his sophomore season, accounted for over 1,500 total yards from scrimmage and 10 total touchdowns, both topping his rookie year stats. If Cohen can make it back, this tandem could be one of the better combos in the NFL.
