Who’s that under center?
Making the most of his early opportunity, Herbert started 15 games. He totaled over 4,300 passing yards and threw for 31 touchdowns, with just 10 interceptions. He added another five touchdowns on the ground in addition to 234 yards.
Although he went just 6-9 as a starter he walked away with the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
More Pro Bowl players on defense?
Another season for the Chargers where the defense had issues starting healthy. Which in turn forced their rookie quarterback to go score for score with the opposing team’s quarterback in almost every game. The performance defensively, despite the injuries, was a big factor in head coach Anthony Lynn losing his job.
Ekeler as the lead back?
Austin Ekeler missed six games with a hamstring strain, suffered in Week 4. But in the 10 games, he played he accounted for just under 1,000 total yards from scrimmage, with just three total touchdowns. Which for a back for a team that was forced to air it out more than they had wanted to is rather impressive. Backup running backs Justin Jackson and rookie Joshua Kelley combined for over 600 yards rushing. Heading into next season the team has to feel good about what they have offensively between the backs and the signal-caller.
