Spring Training: Phillies and Orioles Finish in a Tieby Alex Reich March 1, 2021 0 comments
It was a beautiful day in Clearwater, FL at BayCare Ballpark. Philadelphia Phillies ace Aaron Nola started the game and pitched just two innings in his first warmup start.
It Was Neck and Neck from the Jump
In the top of the first, Baltimore’s Austin Hays singled to center field. Following that, DJ Stewart came up to the plate and devoured his at bat with a home run to right to give Baltimore a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the frame, Philly’s Andrew McCutchen reached on an infield single to second base. Andrew Knapp hit a ground rule double to left field which scored McCutchen and Jean Segura to tie the game at two.
Seven Innings of Baseball
Stewart grounded into a fielder’s choice to second, scoring Nevin to tie the score at four a piece. Neither team could get more on board in the seventh inning and the game ended in a tie, 4-4.
Nola pitched two innings, giving up two earned runs. He did not look sharp out there but was dealing with a pitch count. He also surrendered a home run. It definitely was not his best. Additionally, there were some pitching performances from the second unit of the bullpen. Both Michael Ynoa and Ramon Rósso did not give up any runs.
Next up for the Phillies will be the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, March 2 at 1:07 p.m. EST at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Florida.
