Rams’ Aaron Donald Named Defensive Player of the Year

After a one-year hiatus from taking home hardware, Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald is adding another trophy to his collection. The vicious pass-rusher won his third career Defensive Player of the Year award at the NFL Honors ceremony on Sunday.

A seven-time Pro Bowler and six-time First-Team All-Pro, Donald terrorized opposing offenses in 2020. He finished the season with 13.5 sacks, 45 tackles, and four fumbles forced. He continued to wreak havoc in the playoffs, amassing two sacks and four tackles over two games. Speaking of the playoffs, Donald’s Rams upset the Seattle Seahawks in the first round of this year’s bracket. However, their luck ran out one week later as they fell to the Green Bay Packers.

Still just 29 years old, the former 13th overall pick continues to receive praise as the league’s greatest defensive player. His relentless spirit and ferocious preparation make him a perennial candidate for this award. Don’t be surprised to see him in the running again next year.

Donald received 27 votes. Pittsburgh Steelers star linebacker T.J. Watt finished as the runner-up for the award with 20 votes while Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard received three.
