Reacting To The Heat’s Victory Over The Pistons

by January 19, 2021 0 comments

Monday’s game was starting to look like another letdown for the Miami Heat. The Detroit Pistons jumped out to a 28-9 lead after just seven minutes of action. However, Miami came back late in the half. The Heat also used a 24-10 run to take a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter before needing to hang on for the win.

With the win, Miami moves to 5-7 for the season.

With that said, here are my takeaways from Monday’s victory over Detroit.

Bam leads the way

You can now say that Bam Adebayo is certified from mid-range. He continues to look very comfortable taking the shot outside the key. Bam even hit a step back jumper in the third period. Most importantly, he made the biggest play of the game with his block on Jerami Grant. He was clearly the star of the night.

Adebayo finished with 28 points (13 in the fourth quarter), 11 rebounds and five assists.

Okpala on a short leash

KZ Okpala got his second consecutive start at small forward. The Heat forward came out aggressive with 10 points in his first start on Saturday, but Monday was a different story. He picked up two quick fouls in the first few minutes of the game. Okpala was then replaced by Moe Harkless and never returned on the floor.

Okpala finished with the night scoreless and only played four minutes.

Nunn overcomes struggles

Since the bubble, Kendrick Nunn has not been playing well. On Monday, he played a huge role in the Heat’s comeback in the second period. Nunn was aggressive on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he looked like his old self, scoring at all three levels of the court and looking very confident. Hopefully, he can build off this performance.

Nunn finished the night with 18 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Next up: At the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.
