Week 17 Preview: Washington Football Team vs Philadelphia Eagles

Week 17 Preview: Washington Football Team vs Philadelphia Eagles

by January 3, 2021 0 comments

The Washington Football Team (6-9) travels to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles (4-10-1) in a key divisional matchup. Washington guarantees a playoff spot with a win, however, if they lose, the winner of Giants vs Cowboys would take their spot. Thus, the Football Team is in a must-win situation.

Washington leads the all-time series 86-80-6, however, Philadelphia has won six of the last seven meetings between the two franchises.

Washington Football Team

Without their starting quarterback Alex Smith and receiver Terry McLaurin, the Football Team struggled on offense and lost 20-13 to the Carolina Panthers. Running back J.D. McKissic caught eight passes for 77 yards and a touchdown, while Chase Young had a sack, forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

Smith (leg) and McLaurin (ankle) remain questionable to play this week, although both are expected to play. Running back Antonio Gibson is also questionable with a toe injury. Defensively, veteran linebacker Thomas Davis is out for Sunday and has announced that he will retire at the end of the season.

Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia got blown out by the Cowboys last week, losing 37-17 and being officially eliminated from the playoff race. After missing several games with an injury, DeSean Jackson returned and caught an 81-yard touchdown. Running back Miles Sanders had 84 scrimmage yards and a touchdown.

The injuries have piled up for the Eagles and given that there are no playoff implications this week, they’ll likely hold out most of them. Defensive linemen Derek Barnett (calf) and Fletcher Cox (neck) did not practice this week and are questionable for Sunday’s game. Receivers Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, Quez Watkins, and Dallas Goedert are also all questionable.

Betting Odds Sponsored by Jazz Sportsbook

Point Spread: WAS -3.5 (-110) | PHI +3.5 (-110)

Moneyline: WAS -200 | PHI +160

Over/Under: O 44.5 (-110) | U 44.5 (-110)

In a battle of mediocre offenses and solid defensive lines, this one should be a low scoring affair. Take the under and Washington to cover the spread.

With McLaurin and Smith likely back in the lineup, Washington will pull out a hard-fought win. Young will dominate defensively, containing the Eagles’ Jalen Hurts and Sanders. As a result, Washington will make the playoffs as the fourth seed in the NFC.

Final Score: Washington Football Team 23, Philadelphia Eagles 18
