After a week of football, we finally know what some teams look like. The draft order is now updated after the first 16 games and has been reflected in this mock. Each 0-1 team will go first with the rest of season predictions determining that order and then teams who are 1-0 will pick 17-32. With Jacksonville and Washington winning, there are major shakeups at the top of the draft, especially the top spot.
1. New York Giants – Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Yes, Daniel Jones is still young but there is a new coaching staff for the Giants and Jones has been a turnover machine thus far into his career. Lawrence has been talked about as the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck and whoever has the first pick should select him and in this experiment, it’s the Giants.
2. New York Jets – Gregory Rousseau, EDGE, Miami
The Jets were awful in all phases on Sunday against Buffalo and could use some more offensive linemen or receivers, but adding to the defense is also a possibility. New York lacks a true number one pass rusher and Jordan Jenkins isn’t getting any younger. Rousseau had 15.5 sacks last year and would immediately be a dominant force for the Jets.
3. Carolina Panthers – Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
Carolina is the first team that doesn’t move up or down that much in this mock. Even with Teddy Bridgewater, Matt Rhule needs to find his quarterback of the future as Bridgewater doesn’t offer a high ceiling for the offense. Fields is in the conversation for the second-best quarterback in the class and would sit for a bit with Bridgewater still at the helm.
4. Miami Dolphins – Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon
With Tua Tagovailoa as the quarterback if the future, the front office needs to get him help, especially upfront. While adding Austin Jackson was a bit early in the first round last year, he and Sewell would form a formidable duo at the tackle spots for Miami. The Dolphins need to keep Tagovailoa upright for him to succeed.
5. Atlanta Falcons – Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
Atlanta’s secondary is still a mess and was destroyed by Russell Wilson and the Seahawks on Sunday. Surtain will form a duo with A.J. Terrell for years to come. All three levels of the Atlanta defense needs help and there could be a potential pick of the future quarterback since they are picking this high.
6. Detroit Lions – Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU
Matt Patricia will likely be gone if the Lions are picking this high. With Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones‘ contracts expiring after this year, wide receiver could be a big need for Detroit. Imagine Stafford throwing to both Chase and Golladay, if he is still in Detroit next year. Like Atlanta, the quarterback of the future was in consideration here.
7. Cincinnati Bengals – Alex Leatherwood, OT, Alabama
Bobby Hart is one of the worst starting linemen in the league. Joe Burrow was running for his life against the Chargers and needs help on the offensive line desperately. The skill players for the Bengals are great but the offensive line is horrendous besides Jonah Williams. Leatherwood could’ve declared for the draft last year but stayed at Alabama for another year and will team back up with Williams at the tackle spots for Cincinnati.
8. Cleveland Browns – Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State
The Browns are in a weird spot. They are great on paper, but the positions that they aren’t good at stick out like a sore thumb. Linebacker is currently their biggest need after Joe Schobert‘s departure and Parsons falls into Cleveland’s lap here. Andrew Berry had a great first draft and starts his second off with one of the best defensive players in the class.
9. Miami Dolphins (via Houston) – Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama
With a tackle added to the fold for Miami, it’s time to get Tagovailoa another weapon. Waddle and Tagovailoa were teammates at Alabama and it would be a scary scene if they reunited for the Dolphins. The trio of DeVante Parker, Preston Williams, and Waddle would be one of the most dangerous in the league.
10. Indianapolis Colts – Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State
With Philip Rivers not getting any younger, it’s time for the Colts to take their quarterback of the future. While they did draft Jacob Eason last year, Lance is the phenom of the draft community currently following a college season where he had 28 touchdowns and no interceptions last year for the Bison. With the most cap space in the league, the Colts could also make a run at Dak Prescott, or they could build the roster up and select Lance.
11. Dallas Cowboys – Pat Freiermuth, TE, Penn State
This was a difficult spot for the Cowboys to be picking. Safety is a prime position of need and maybe quarterback could be in the conversation depending on what happens with the Prescott fiasco. Ultimately, adding another weapon to the offense is the most Jerry Jones move possible.
12. Denver Broncos – Marvin Wilson, DL, Florida State
The defensive line for Denver was a force last night against Derrick Henry, but they are starting Jurrell Casey and Wilson could take over for him after the 2021 season. Wilson is a terror on the interior of the defensive line and had five sacks last year for the Seminoles. Wilson earned a player of the week award this last weekend to kick off the 2020 season.
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Creed Humphrey, IOL, Oklahoma
The Buccaneers offense looked like a mess on Sunday and Tom Brady was terrorized. While Ali Marpet is great and the team added Tristan Wirfs in the first round, Tampa Bay still needs help on the offensive line. Humphrey could’ve been a first-round pick last year but returned to Oklahoma.
14. Minnesota Vikings – Wyatt Davis, IOL, Ohio State
Once again, Kirk Cousins was on his back for most of the game on Sunday against Green Bay. The offensive line has been a mess for years and it’s time for it to fully be addressed. Davis has been talked about as the next Quenton Nelson and would help Dalvin Cook be more explosive in the running game.
15. Philadelphia Eagles – Dylan Moses, LB, Alabama
Philadelphia has needed a linebacker for years. Like many in this class, Moses could’ve been a first-round selection last year but tore his ACL and elected to return to Alabama for his senior year. He would easily be the starting three-down linebacker for the Eagles.
16. San Francisco 49ers – Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech
Many thought the 49ers would use one of their first-round selections last year on a cornerback. That was not the case. With Richard Sherman and Jason Verrett not getting any younger, adding Farley would be a great fit for Robert Saleh’s defense.
17. Jacksonville Jaguars – Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas
The Jaguars have the worst tackle tandem in the league with Cam Robinson and Jawaan Taylor. With Jacksonville winning, it takes them out of the conversation for Sewell, but Cosmi is a good consolation prize. Cosmi and Taylor would form a nice young tandem at the tackle spots.
18. Arizona Cardinals – Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
Many expect this pick to be on the offensive line. Well, we thought the same last year and Arizona drafted Isaiah Simmons so, let’s expect the unexpected. Why not add another weapon for Kyler Murray? The Cardinals haven’t used a tight end much since Kliff Kingsbury has been the coach, but they haven’t had one like Pitts.
19. Washington Football Team – Devonta Smith, WR, Alabama
Washington shocked everyone in Week 1 when they beat Philadelphia. The defense is great besides the cornerback spot, but let’s add another weapon for Dwayne Haskins. Terry McLaurin had a great rookie season but doesn’t have a partner. Steven Sims is solid and the team selected Antonio Gandy-Golden in the 2020 draft, but adding Smith is too good to pass up here.
20. Chicago Bears – Jaylen Twyman, DL, Pittsburgh
The Bears miss out on the run of quarterbacks and interior offensive linemen so they add to their defensive line. Twyman had 10.5 sacks for Pittsburgh last year and would make a great front seven even better and take some of the double teams off of Akiem Hicks.
21. Los Angeles Chargers – Christian Barmore, DL, Alabama
The Chargers held Joe Mixon in check on Sunday, but that was more of Cincinnati’s abysmal offensive line than the Charger run defense. Los Angeles added Linval Joseph in free agency this offseason, but both Justin Jones and Jerry Tillery haven’t been enough to completely avoid the position as a potential possibility in the first round.
22. Las Vegas Raiders – Quincy Roche, EDGE, Miami
The first two edge rushers off the board come from the Hurricanes. Roche transferred to Miami from Temple after 40.5 sacks his first three years at Temple. The Raiders are continuing to reshape their pass rush and adding Roche to a group that has Clelin Ferrell and Maxx Crosby would be an excellent decision for Mike Mayock.
23. Tennessee Titans – Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue
It looks as though Corey Davis could be this year’s Parker, where he shows up finally when it’s least expected. With Davis and A.J. Brown, the Titans have two receivers that match their run-heavy scheme but lack a true home-run threat at the receiver spot. Enter Moore who can change the outcome of a game in one play. He’s coming off an injury in the 2019 season and doesn’t have the chance to show how good he is this year due to the Big Ten not playing, but he still should be selected on day one.
24. Jacksonville Jaguars (via LA Rams) – Shaun Wade, CB, Ohio State
The run on Ohio State cornerbacks over the last few years has been incredible and it continues with the selection of Wade. He will team up with C.J. Henderson who the Jaguars selected in the first round this last year to form the cornerback duo Jacksonville seemingly had in Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye.
25. New England Patriots – Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson
The Patriots are the most difficult team to predict in the draft every year. While they selected Sony Michel just a few years ago, he hasn’t been able to stay healthy. Etienne has been a menace for the Tigers for years and would give New England a bell-cow back.
26. Buffalo Bills – Paulson Adebo, CB, Stanford
The Bills have been looking for a number two cornerback opposite of Tre’Davious White for some time now. With Josh Norman on injured reserve and E.J. Gaines opting out, Buffalo is relying on Levi Wallace and Taron Johnson to be their other starters. Adebo would be a perfect fit in Buffalo’s scheme and would form a young tandem with White.
27. Green Bay Packers – Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota
This is a match made in Heaven. While Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling had strong showings in Week 1, they have shown that they can’t give consistent production. Bateman is great at creating separation and has shown he can be the number one receiver in Minnesota’s offense. He won’t have to do that in Green Bay with Davante Adams in the fold. Bateman would take away some coverage from Adams and ultimately help the Packers offense even more.
28. Pittsburgh Steelers – Walker Little, OT, Stanford
This selection could be used in the secondary, but the offensive line isn’t getting any younger and the right tackle spot could be a need as well depending on Zach Banner‘s recovery and how the young options do. Matt Feiler has done a good job in the past, but the offensive line needs more depth, and finding the future left tackle soon should be a priority. Little would be a top tackle in some classes but in a deep tackle class, he finds his way towards the bottom of round one.
29. New Orleans Saints – Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame
The Saints have added to their linebacker room already by bringing in Zack Baun in the last draft, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if they do so again. Owusu-Koramoah had 8.5 sacks last year for the Fighting Irish. He has already put himself on the NFL’s radar early this year with last weekend’s game where he had nine tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.
30. Baltimore Ravens – Carlos Basham Jr. EDGE, Wake Forest
The Ravens defense is one of the best in the league but they still need help rushing the passer. Pernell McPhee and Calais Campbell aren’t getting any younger and Jaylon Ferguson hasn’t developed. Basham is coming off of an 11 sack season and is off to a great start to his 2020 season.
31. New York Jets (via Seattle) – Tyson Campbell, CB, Georgia
The Jets were shredded by Josh Allen and company on Sunday. Though they have a ton of intriguing options at the cornerback spot, there is no true number one cornerback on the roster. Campbell hasn’t recorded an interception in his college career but he has all the tools to turn into an elite cornerback for the Jets.
32. Kansas City Chiefs – Trey Smith, IOL, Tennessee
Patrick Mahomes had some issues in the pocket last Thursday against Houston. The offensive line isn’t as good in Kansas City as many think, especially on the interior. Smith finds himself as the last pick of the first day and will immediately slot in at one of the guard spots.
