2021 NFL Expert Picks: Week 10

NFL

Three NFL experts from the Prime Time Sports Talk staff came together to share their picks for Week 10.

These three writers will make their picks for the entire season, earning two points for any correct win-loss outcome and an additional three points for correctly predicting the exact score. (Failure to accurately predict a tie will be treated as a loss.) A cumulative points total and record will be listed at the bottom of every article. An archive of all 18 regular-season and four playoff editions can be found here.

Sam Schneider, Joe Heller, and Andersen Pickard contributed to this article.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Miami Dolphins

Sam: Ravens 26, Dolphins 13

The Ravens coughed up 31 points to the Minnesota Vikings last week, and although they won, the defense is much-maligned, Thats’s out of the ordinary in Baltimore. The remedy is getting Miami, who may is one of the worst teams in the league on Thursday night. Tua Tagovailoa is questionable for the game, which may mean Jacoby Brissett may be under center.   Regardless of the quarterback, Miami is not a good team, and will be abused by Baltimore.

Joe: Ravens 27, Dolphins 13

The Ravens won’t have to play from behind in this game as they did against the Vikings. Lamar Jackson will take this game over from the beginning. The Dolphins add a late score for pride.

Andersen: Ravens 28, Dolphins 16

The Ravens looked good offensively on Sunday despite requiring overtime to beat the Vikings. Their defense has been questionable, but the expected absence of Tua Tagovailoa takes some of the weight off of Baltimore.

New Orleans Saints vs. Tennessee Titans

Sam: Saints 23, Titans 14

New Orleans will shut down an offense missing Derrick Henry. Taysom Hill does plenty as a runner as New Orleans runs away from the Titans. They’ve been up-and-down all season, but have cashed in on good defense.

Joe: Titans 27, Saints 17

The Titans’ defense over the last four games has defeated four of the better offenses in the NFL. They will continue that against the Saints, causing a turnover or two to give Ryan Tannehill and the offense a short field to capitalize on.

Andersen: Titans 31, Saints 20

The Titans impressed on Sunday night, putting the Rams in their place while making Matthew Stafford look absolutely foolish. Even without Derrick Henry, this Tennessee team is very strong. Even their defense has been one of the best in the league over recent weeks despite playing against the Bills and Rams. They should be able to win handily over New Orleans.

Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets

Sam: Bills 26, Jets 17

I wanted to make a case for the Jets keeping this close in a divisional matchup, but I cannot. The Bills are looking good on both sides of the ball and the Jets are not. A home game for the Jets keeps it reasonable, but only because of a garbage-time touchdown. The Buffalo defense will find the end zone, and the offense has an easy day.

Joe: Bills 24, Jets 20

The Bills will get the win here, although the Jets stay in this divisional game throughout. Josh Allen will rebound from a tough performance against the Jaguars’ defense. He will tally the winning score on his own with little time left.

Andersen: Bills 31, Jets 24

The Bills might be the best team in the NFL and their loss to the Jaguars does not change that. Sometimes, good teams lose. It happens. They should have no trouble defeating the Jets this week.

Detroit Lions vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Sam: Steelers 31, Lions 14

Once again, Detroit is arguably the worst team in the league. Expect the Steelers’ Najee Harris to run wild in this one, putting it away early.

Joe: Steelers 31, Lions 20

The Steelers won’t need a bad call to get the win this week. Lions coach Dan Campbell may bench his quarterback Jared Goff after the half in hopes of lighting a spark or sending a message to Goff and the rest of his team. The Steelers will play with the lead throughout.

Andersen: Steelers 24, Lions 20

The Steelers narrowly beat the Bears this past week, but the Lions are even worse than Chicago. Expect Detroit’s defense to be flat coming off its bye, leading to a big game for Najee Harris and the entire Pittsburgh offense.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts

Sam: Colts 20, Jaguars 10

Indianapolis has not been particularly impressive this year, but they are certainly better than Jacksonville. They are going to run the ball, then run agaiin,

Joe: Jaguars 20, Colts 17

The Jaguars will use a formula against the Colts similar to the one they used against the Bills last week. The loss will drop the Colts yet another game behind the AFC South-leading Titans as the schedule grows ever shorter.

Andersen: Colts 21, Jaguars 17

Regardless of what the two-score difference suggested, the Colts absolutely trounced the Jets last Thursday night. Meanwhile, the Jaguars’ offense was horrible despite edging out the Bills. A late-game score will keep it close, but Indianapolis takes the win in this one.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Washington Football Team

Sam: Buccaneers 22, Football Team 14

This might be shocker when football fans view the score, but it’s a get-right game for Tampa Bay after their loss to the Saints. Washington plays well in their own get-right game.

Joe: Buccaneers 31, Football Team 17

Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke nearly pulled off an upset against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in his first career start during last year’s playoffs. That won’t be the case this year. The Bucs win.

Andersen: Buccaneers 34, Football Team 24

The Buccaneers are one of the most dominant teams in football and are coming off a bye week. (Washington, too, had Week 9 off.) Expect Tampa Bay’s offense to come out firing, especially after making corrections to the way they played against the Saints nearly two weeks ago.

Cleveland Browns vs. New England Patriots

Sam: Patriots 24, Browns 20

Cleveland is in a tailspin and still dealing with the OBJ dropout, along with Baker Mayfield’s shoulder. The Patriots may not be a contender, but Bill Belichick will have them ready in Foxborough.

Joe: Browns 24, Patriots 20

Baker Mayfield will have to throw the ball more than normal as the running back room battles COVID protocols. He will have success, which not many have had against the Patriots’ defense. Mac Jones will make a costly mistake in the waning moments.

Andersen: Patriots 24, Browns 20

The Browns are limping right now without Odell Beckham Jr., Nick Chubb, and Kareem Hunt. Their defense is relentless, but so is New England’s, and the latter is better at taking an individual player out of the game. It’ll be close, but the Pats will win by less than one touchdown.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Dallas Cowboys

Sam: Cowboys 41, Falcons 31

Two teams with virtually no defense are gonna do their thing. Dallas’ line has been better, so they hold off Atlanta, although it should be a fun game to watch. Buckle up for plenty of scoring.

Joe: Falcons 27, Cowboys 24

The Falcons will be the second team in as many weeks to go into Dallas and pull off the upset. The offense for the Cowboys will struggle once again to sustain drives when the game is still hanging in the balance. Matt Ryan will use all of the weapons at his disposal to get his team the win.

Andersen: Cowboys 20, Falcons 17

I’m not quite sure how or why Dallas looked incompetent last week, but the past is in the past. The Cowboys, fueled by a stronger offense, are better than the Falcons and will prove it on Sunday, albeit by a narrow margin.

Carolina Panthers vs. Arizona Cardinals

Sam: Cardinals 24, Panthers 17

Vegas has installed Arizona as 10.5-point favorites. I’m not buying it. This is a trap game for the 8-1 Cardinals. Christian McCaffery and company are going to give them a game, but still get the win.

Joe: Cardinals 31, Panthers 13

The Cardinals have proven that they can score points (seemingly at will) regardless of who is under center. The Panthers, on the other hand, have struggled to put up points consistently since their 3-0 start to the season. This game will be out of reach for Carolina early.

Andersen: Cardinals 34, Panthers 17

Kyler Murray should be back for this game, but even if he isn’t, Colt McCoy has shown that he is capable of winning. Of course, Arizona owes a lot of gratitude to James Conner, who totaled three touchdowns amidst an injury to Chase Edmonds. On the other side, the Panthers will come together for a garbage-time score, making a very, very ugly loss look only very ugly.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Sam: Chargers 42, Vikings 29

Let’s go. This should be a shootout, and Justin Herbert is ready to bounce back. In the end, the Chargers’ defense shows up and puts down the Vikings.

Joe: Vikings 34, Chargers 31

This game will be a back-and-forth, high-scoring one. The Vikings may even need a late-game field goal to get the road win against Justin Herbert and the Chargers.

Andersen: Chargers 27, Vikings 24

After a late-game letdown against the Ravens, the Vikings will prove that they once again can’t finish against the Chargers in Week 10. The Chargers will play far from perfect on defense, but they’ll do enough in the waning minutes to secure a victory.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers

Sam: Packers 26, Seahawks 20

Vegas got the line wrong again, as they generally do with Green Bay. This game is at Lambeau, Seattle cannot win in Seattle, so I’ve got no feeling that they could win in Wisconsin, This won’t be as close as the score indicates, regardless of whether Russell Wilson plays.

Joe: Seahawks 30, Packers 24

All indications are that Russell Wilson will be back under center for the Seahawks on the road at Lambeau. Whether Aaron Rodgers or Jordan Love starts won’t make a difference in the ultimate outcome. Wilson will play at the MVP level that he’s been accustomed to and quickly keep the Seahawks’ playoff hopes from slipping too far out of reach.

Andersen: Seahawks 27, Packers 23

The outcome of this game depends largely on the status of Russell Wilson. Assuming he plays (it looks like he will), the Seahawks will snag a much-needed win. If he’s out but Aaron Rodgers is back, Green Bay gets the edge. If both Jordan Love and Geno Smith get the start, the latter takes the victory. Got it?

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Denver Broncos

Sam: Eagles 27, Broncos 14

Finally, the Eagles get a winnable game. The offense has been horrible, and they’re without Miles Sanders, now, The defense is not terrible and they get a Denver team that struggles to move the ball. Iggles get a win.

Joe: Eagles 24, Broncos 17

Running back Jordan Howard will lead the way for the Eagles. They will get the road win in Denver against the team their NFC East division-leading Cowboys lost to in blowout fashion.

Andersen: Broncos 20, Eagles 17

The Broncos have momentum after a big win over the Cowboys. Perhaps even more miraculous than the win itself is the fact that it came just days after Denver traded away Von Miller. They’ll take that fire and use it to beat the Eagles in Week 10.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Joe: Raiders 31, Chiefs 27

For the second straight week, the Sunday night matchup will be won by the underdog. The Raiders know how to beat the Chiefs and they will get a much-needed win to combat their latest series of off-field issues.

Andersen: Chiefs 27, Raiders 24

This Sunday night game wasn’t circled on many calendars back in August. Now, though, the game will pit two teams on the fringe of the playoffs against each other. In the end, the Chiefs’ knowledge of their division rivals coupled with Vegas’ off-the-field issues tilts the balance in favor of Kansas City.

Los Angeles Rams vs. San Francisco 49ers

Joe: Rams 37, 49ers 27

Andersen: Rams 31, 49ers 24

The Rams suffered a brutal loss on Sunday night but will bounce back in their second consecutive primetime game. This time, it’s against the Niners in an intriguing divisional clash. Look for Cooper Kupp to total more than 150 yards and a touchdown.

Point Totals

Sam: 160
Joe: 166
Andersen: 162

Records

Sam: 80-56
Joe: 83-53
Andersen: 81-55
