2021 NFL Draft Rumors: Buy or Sell

NFL Draft Rumors

With about one week to go until the 2021 NFL Draft, rumors are flying everywhere. The hard part about rumors is sifting through the good and the bad. Teams send out various smoke screens to get guys down to the pick they want them to. Here, we will break down which rumors actually have some backing to them, and which do not.

Denver Broncos Looking to Move on From Drew Lock: Buy

Even though the Broncos seem contemptuous with Lock, they have certainly gauged the market for other quarterbacks. Reports surfaced that they were involved in both the Sam Darnold and Matthew Stafford trades. It seems that if they get a good deal for a quarterback in the draft, they will pull the trigger to move up.

New England Patriots Looking to Move Up for a Quarterback: Buy

One of two Patriots quarterback rumors here, this one the general one. When it comes to the Patriots, it’s a guessing game of what they’ll actually do. However, with their uncharacteristic aggression in free agency, why not think they’ll move up to grab a quarterback? They’ve been at every one of Justin Fields‘, Trey Lance‘s, and Mac Jones‘ pro days and it’s seeming like if they can work something out to move into the top five, they’d do it. This quarterback would get the chance to learn under Cam Newton for a year and follow the modern wave of grooming quarterbacks.

New England Patriots Trading for Jordan Love: Sell

Reports surfaced the other night of a leaked war room document. In this document, it said the Patriots and Green Bay Packers were going to strike a deal that would send the 29th pick, Love, and a fourth-round pick to the Patriots for the 15th pick. This one really just does not make sense. Why would Bill Belichick pass on Love last year, just to move back in the draft to get him this year? Sell hard on this rumor as it’s almost certainly a smoke.

New York Giants Looking to Move Down: Push

General manager Dave Gettleman has never traded down in the first round through his career. That being said, if they don’t like the guys that they have at 11, this could be a move-down opportunity. If they do have someone, however, there is no way they will trade down and potentially wait to get him. We’ve seen this with the Giants for years now, most recently with the pick of Daniel Jones

Atlanta Falcons “Willing” to Move Down: Sell

This one is pretty interesting. It’s a rumor to sell on but only to a certain extent. The Falcons are sitting in the perfect scenario to get whatever player they want in this year’s draft that’s not a quarterback. However, they also sit in a spot where teams want to jump up to get the fourth quarterback on the board. If they do in fact move down, it will only be for what they believe as a massive haul for someone else to secure the franchise quarterback. Otherwise, they can sit at four and grab a number of playmakers.

Miami Dolphins Looking to Move Down: Buy

The Dolphins could be on the move once again and for good reason. If they know their guy will be available at something like pick nine, or 11, they could make the jump to a few spots back. This could also build up some ammo to make a move up from 18 if they wanted to. They also do not have much draft capital past the second round, so a move back just makes a lot of overall sense.

Carolina Panthers Fielding Offers for the Eighth Pick: Buy

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this one earlier this week and noted that there could be some chaos next week. As fans of the game, this is very exciting news as some action may be had for the first time in a month or so. The Panthers could move back, but only when they are on the clock on draft day. If they wait, they could get their hands on a guy like Kyle Pitts or Penei Sewell if they slide a little. If they don’t fall and the Panthers have a very nice deal on the table, this could be a great move to garner some more picks for the next coming years and hopefully still stay inside the top 20.
