For the month of June, we will be ranking the top 10 NBA players at each position. These rankings will be based only on the 2020-21 regular season and will not include any injured players. The positions of players were determined by ESPN. Without further ado, let’s examine the top 10 point guards from the 2020-21 NBA season.
No. 10 | Ja Morant, Memphis Grizzlies
Morant was a walking highlight reel in his sophomore campaign, averaging 19.1 points, four rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game. The 2020 Rookie of the Year continued to prove he is the future in Memphis, leading the Grizzlies to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
No. 9 | De’Aaron Fox, Sacramento Kings
After signing a five-year, $163 million max contract in the offseason, Fox proved worth the money in 2021. He averaged 25.2 points, 7.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, all ranking top seven at the point guard position. It was a down year for the Kings, but Fox has the potential to lead this team to the playoffs in the future.
No. 8 | Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks
Although he wasn’t voted an All-Star this season, Young dominated every game and led the Hawks to the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. He averaged 25.2 points and finished second in the league with 9.4 assists per game to go along with 28 double-doubles on the season.
No. 7 | Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn Nets
After missing most of the 2020 season due to injury, Irving didn’t miss a step in his return to action. Over 54 games, he averaged 26.9 points and six assists per game while also posting 50/40/90 shooting splits. Irving also finished second at the position with 10.4 field goal makes per game.
No. 6 | Ben Simmons, Philadelphia 76ers
Simmons continued to dominate on both ends of the court this season. One of the two favorites to win Defensive Player of the Year, Simmons averaged 1.6 steals per game to go along with 14.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per outing.
No. 5 | Russell Westbrook, Washington Wizards
At one point this season, the Wizards sat 15 games below .500. However, Westbrook would then go on to lead them to the playoffs as the eighth seed in the East. He averaged 22.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, and a league-best 11.7 assists per game. Westbrook also notched his 184th triple-double, passing NBA legend Oscar Robertson to become the all-time leader.
No. 4 | Chris Paul, Phoenix Suns
Paul showed how valuable he is after leading the Suns to the second seed in the Western Conference in his first season with Phoenix. The veteran point guard put up 16.4 points and 8.9 assists per game on 50 percent shooting from the field. Paul’s exceptional playmaking and crafty shooting keep him ranked at the top of the position even at 36 years old.
No. 3 | Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks
Doncic put together another MVP caliber season in 2021, averaging 27.7 points, eight rebounds, and 8.6 assists per game. Out of all players this season, Doncic finished sixth in points per game, fourth in assists per game, and racked up the fourth most triple-doubles. At only 22 years old, Doncic is the future of the NBA.

No. 2 | Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers
Lillard put up MVP numbers all season long, finishing third of all players with 28.8 points per game, while also averaging 4.2 rebounds and 7.5 assists. The superstar also dropped 50 points against the New Orleans Pelicans back in March, one of 11 players to do so this season.
No. 1 | Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
After missing almost the entire 2020 season due to a broken hand, Curry returned and put together arguably the best campaign of his career. He won the scoring title by putting up 32 points per game, while also averaging 5.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.2 steals. Curry’s biggest highlight from this season was when he poured in 62 points in a win over the Portland Trail Blazers. If not for Denver’s star center Nikola Jokic, Curry would easily take home his third MVP Award.
