The NCAA Basketball Daily Dunk: Friday, December 18, 2020by Ben Fadden December 18, 2020 0 comments
Kansas and Creighton were in action last night, so we’ll catch you up on if they won or lost, and four ranked teams are playing later tonight including San Diego State!
Welcome to today’s Daily Dunk where we recap all of college basketball’s biggest games from yesterday and give you a look at the matchups to watch later today!
Yesterday’s Biggest Games
#4 Kansas 58 vs. #14 Texas Tech 57
This felt like a game in March between two NCAA Tournament teams. Maybe the fans in the arena played a part in it, but the game lived up to the hype. It seemed like it was either tied or a one-possession game the entire way.
It was tied for the eighth time with under a minute left and after Kansas’ Marcus Garrett made a layup, Terrance Shannon Jr. drained a go-ahead three-pointer to put the Red Raiders up 57-56. Jayhawks’ Ochai Agbaji made a layup to go up one and Texas Tech had one last chance to win the game with 6.2 seconds on the clock. Jalen Wilson came up with the game-saving block to give his team the win in Lubbock.
Not only did Agbaji end up scoring the game-winning shot, but he also dropped 23 points and made his last four shots in the final minutes.
Kansas will face #8 West Virginia in their next game on Tuesday in what should be yet another great ranked contest.
#9 Creighton 94 vs St. John’s 76
Creighton faced a tough test on the road last night and it was close for the majority of the game. St. John’s was only trailing by seven points at halftime, but then the Blue Jays pulled away. A 19-4 run in the second half certainly helped them get their fifth win of the season and first in conference play after being upset by Marquette.
Marcus Zegarowski was named to the preseason All-Big East Team and showed why on Thursday. He led Creighton in scoring with 20 points.
The Johnnies lost their second consecutive game after losing in overtime to Georgetown last weekend. They’ll host the Hoyas on Sunday in Queens.
Games to Watch Today
BYU vs. #18 San Diego State
How to Watch: Friday, December 18, 5:00 PM ET, CBSSN
The Aztecs got into the Top 25 last week and rose to No. 18 after beating then-ranked Arizona State by double digits on the road. BYU is always a competitive team and it will be another test for San Diego State before Christmas.
Iowa State vs. #8 West Virginia
How to Watch: Friday, December 18, 9:00 PM ET, ESPNU
West Virginia is the real deal this year and they’ve shown it in their wins against quality opponents such as Georgetown and formerly ranked Richmond. They only lost to #1 Gonzaga by five points.
They should take care of the Cyclones tonight, but it’s a conference game so it should be close at least in the first half.
Make sure to check back here tomorrow for a recap of today’s games and we’ll get you ready for tomorrow’s best matchups in college basketball!
