10 Takeaways From Week 13 of the 2020 NFL Season

Here’s a look back at the week that was Week 13.

Not as Expected

The Titans and Browns matchup which featured two of the top rushing offenses in the NFL figured to be a classic smash mouth matchup, with Derrick Henry, Nick Chubb, and Kareem Hunt in the same game. The Browns led at halftime 38-7 with much of their offense coming through the air. The Titans were airing it out as well and almost pulled off a miracle, losing 41-35.

Down Goes Frazier

The last remaining undefeated team, the Steelers, lost to an unlikely opponent, Washington. Many had their next game against the Bills as the one they may lose, but maybe they were looking ahead to that game as well.

Speaking of Unlikely

The Giants, with Colt McCoy getting the start for an injured Daniel Jones, defeated the Seattle Seahawks. New York’s defense shut down Russell Wilson and company.

Almost Three

While the Steelers and Seahawks lost to inferior opponents, the Chiefs staved off a similar fate to the Broncos with a late-game touchdown.

Special Teams, Special Teams, Special Teams

The Patriots blew out the Los Angeles Chargers 45-0. They had a kick return for a touchdown and a blocked field goal for a touchdown as well.

All-Out Blitz’d Out of Town

The Jets were one-stop from coming away with their first victory on the season. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams dialed up an all-out blitz when all they needed was to keep them from scoring. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr hit Henry Ruggs for a touchdown and the win for Las Vegas. Williams was fired on Monday, after many including former Jets coach Rex Ryan, saying that was the dumbest thing they had ever seen.

Keep Marching

The Saints outlasted their rivals the Atlanta Falcons to maintain their spot at the number one seed in the NFC. In the losing effort, Julio Jones recorded his 100th career reception against the Saints.

New Coach, New Energy

The Lions in their first game after they fired their general manager and their head coach Matt Patricia, came back from 10 points down in the fourth quarter to earn interim coach Darrell Bevell his first victory.

Kings for a Week

With the Seahawks’ loss to the Giants and their win against the Cardinals, the Rams once again hold the top spot in the highly contested NFL West race.

Revenge Game < Covid-19

Dez Bryant was looking forward to the Ravens matchup against his former team the Cowboys. Right before game time, it was announced that he tested positive. He was removed from the field promptly. Bryant tweeted that he was quitting the season shortly after.
