Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens faced off against Cam Newton and the New England Patriots in week 10 on Sunday Night Football. The Patriots dominated the ground through the first three quarters and got out to a big lead. Unfortunately for the Ravens, heavy rain in the fourth quarter stopped their chances of a comeback and the Patriots pulled off the 23-17 upset.

Damien Harris led the way for New England on the ground, rushing 22 times for 121 yards. Rex Burkhead added two touchdowns through the air. For Baltimore, Willie Snead had a good night, hauling in five passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

First Half

After a pair of punts, Baltimore struck first on a 13-play, 94-yard drive that ended in a Snead touchdown catch. New England quickly drove the field and Newton found running back Burkhead wide open for a seven-yard touchdown to tie the game.

On the following possession, Jackson and the Ravens took their time down the field and regained the lead on a Justin Tucker field goal. The Patriots got the ball with a little over five minutes to go in the first half.

After several strong runs by Harris, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels drew up a spectacular trick play. Newton threw the ball backwards to wide receiver Jakobi Meyers (a former quarterback), who then threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Burkhead.

The Ravens threw an interception to Patriots’ cornerback J.C. Jackson on their final possession, keeping the score at 13-10 heading into halftime.

Second Half

On their first possession of the second half, New England drove 75 yards in four plays and scored on a Newton rushing touchdown to take a 20-10 lead. The Ravens turned the ball over on downs and the Patriots added on a field goal to push their lead to 13 points.

Baltimore’s next drive was another long one, taking six minutes off the clock and connecting with Snead for his second touchdown of the night. The Ravens still trailed 17-23.

In the fourth quarter, the rain picked up and it became a battle on the ground. Five combined punts and a Ravens turnover on downs ended the game 23-17 in an unusual fashion.

Baltimore drops to 6-3, falling three games behind the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North. They will look to bounce back against the Tennessee Titans who lost this past Thursday night. Meanwhile, the Patriots improve to 4-5 and will go for their third straight win next week against a struggling Houston Texans team.
