Week 5 Recap: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Chicago Bears

Week 5 Recap: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Chicago Bears

by October 9, 2020 0 comments

In a game full of strong defense, Nick Foles and the Chicago Bears beat Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 20-19.

Down 19-17, the Bears went on a nine-play, 32-yard drive that ended with a 38-yard field goal by Cairo Santos with 1:17 remaining in the game. That gave Brady a shot to drive down the field with no timeouts remaining, but the Buccaneers fell short after a turnover on downs when Brady appeared to not know it was fourth down.

Brady finished the game 25-41 with 253 yards and one touchdown. Rookie wide receiver Tyler Johnson stepped up for the Buccaneers, finishing with four catches for a team-high 61 yards. Rob Gronkowski became a larger part of the offense as well, finishing with three catches for 52 yards. The running game was effective, mainly due to Ronald Jones rushing for 106 yards on 17 attempts.

Foles didn’t play much better than Brady, but he made big plays when it mattered most. He finished 30-42 with 243 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. Allen Robinson was his favorite target as he was targeted 16 times, catching 10 of them for 90 yards. Jimmy Graham made two key third-down catches and caught a touchdown pass one-handed.

The rush defense continued to be stout for the Buccaneers, as the Bears finished with only 35 yards on 14 total carries. The Bears defense was great at getting pressure on Brady. Khalil Mack made his presence felt with two sacks and three tackles.

Highlights

Next week, the Buccaneers (3-2) will host the undefeated Green Bay Packers (4-0) in Tampa Bay. The Bears (4-1) will travel to Carolina to take on the Carolina Panthers (2-2).
