Week 4 Preview: New England Patriots vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Week 4 Preview: New England Patriots vs. Kansas City Chiefs

by October 2, 2020 0 comments

The New England Patriots (2-1) will face off against the Kansas City Chiefs (3-0) for the first time since moving on from Tom Brady.

Cam Newton and the Patriots will have their hands full trying to keep up with the defending champions’ explosive offense, however, you can always expect a great game when Bill Belichick and Andy Reid go head-to-head.

New England Patriots

The Patriots come off an impressive 36-20 win against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3. Running backs Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead dominated the game, combining for 238 yards and three touchdowns. The beauty of the Patriots offense this season is how flexible they have been. In week 1, Cam Newton rushed 15 times for 75 yards. The following week he threw for 397 yards and this past week New England’s running backs dominated in the run game.

Notable injuries for the Patriots heading into Week 4 are Julian Edelman, Sony Michel, Isaiah Wynn, and Adam Butler, all who practiced in a limited fashion this week. Each of them is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday’s game.

The Chiefs defense has improved significantly this season, but Patriots offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels should be able to keep them on their toes for the duration of the ball game to help give the Pats a chance to win.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs erupted in Week 3 en route to a 34-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Patrick Mahomes threw for 385 yards and four touchdowns, also adding a rushing touchdown. Rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire put his skills on display, racking up 134 scrimmage yards against the Ravens stellar run-defense. Kansas City hasn’t missed a beat after winning the Super Bowl, however, New England’s tricky offense and tough defense could make for a tough matchup.

The main injury concern for the Chiefs heading into Week 4 is their Pro-Bowl defensive tackle Chris Jones, who was limited in practice this week with a groin injury. If Jones should miss the game, it would be a major blow to the Chiefs’ defensive line and pass rush.

Kansas City leads the all-time series 19-16-3 and is looking to grab their second straight win against New England.

Start Time: 4:25 P.M. est

Location: Kansas City, MO

Stadium: Arrowhead Stadium

Betting Odds Sponsored by Jazz Sportsbook

Point Spread: NE +6.5 (-110) | KC -6.5 (-110)

Moneyline: NE +250 | KC -325

Over/Under: O 52.5 (-110) | U 52.5 (-110)

Kansas City is favored to win by just under a touchdown and due to New England’s struggles kicking field goals, the Chiefs should win and cover the spread. Given that both these teams have scored a combined 59 points per game through the first three weeks and the likelihood of a shootout, make sure to take the over in this one.

Both of these teams will make the playoffs this season, but grabbing a conference win against a good opponent could be important in the long run. The Chiefs will get a lead early and force the Patriots to throw the ball. Although Newton and company will keep it a close game, the Chiefs will win and stay undefeated.

Final Score: New England Patriots 30, Kansas City Chiefs 41
