Report: Chicago Bulls Hiring Billy Donovan as Next Head Coach

Report: Chicago Bulls Hiring Billy Donovan as Next Head Coach

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Billy Donovan and the Chicago Bulls have come to an agreement that will make Donovan the next head coach of the Bulls.

Following another disappointing season, in which multiple young players failed to progress, the Bulls parted ways with now former coach Jim Boylen. Donovan was the head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder for the previous five seasons after a lengthy run in the college ranks.

The Thunder surprised most this past season with their play, not at all tanking as many had assumed they would be. Donovan instead led them to a playoff appearance behind a 44-28 record. In five seasons with the Thunder, Donovan had a record of 243-157 (.608).

He now takes over a young Bulls team that has talent but lacked leadership. Donovan has worked well with both veterans and young players in his time in the NBA.

This is a promising development for the future of the Chicago Bulls as they head in a new direction. On top of prospects like Coby White, Lauri Markkanen, and Wendell Carter Jr., the Bulls also hold the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft.
