History was made in Tampa Bay as Tom Brady became the second quarterback to throw for 75,000 career yards en route to a 31-17 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-1) victory over the Carolina Panthers (0-2).

Buccaneers on Both Sides

Brady finished 23-35 with 217 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Running back Leonard Fournette had his first touchdown in a Buccaneers uniform in the second quarter, scoring from one yard out. He also put the nail in the coffin with a 46-yard touchdown with 1:48 left in the game. Fournette finished with 103 rushing yards on 12 carries. Running back Ronald Jones II had a touchdown as well, finishing with 23 yards on seven carries. Wide receiver Mike Evans had seven receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown.

The defense gave Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater fits. He finished 33-42 with 367 yards and two interceptions. He was picked off by Jordan Whitehead on their first drive of the game and by Carlton Davis in the fourth quarter. The front seven performed well this week as they sacked Bridgewater five times, including twice by Ndamukong Suh. Standout rookie defensive back Antoine Winfield Jr. had eight tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.

Panthers Struggling

The Panthers were shutout in the first half, but they made some noise in the second half. Superstar running back Christian McCaffrey scored both touchdowns for the Panthers, but was limited to 88 total yards from scrimmage with 18 carries and four receptions. Wide receivers D.J Moore and Robby Anderson combined for 17 receptions with 229 receiving yards.

The defense struggled to get after Brady, as they weren’t able to record a sack. They did benefit from an interception by Donte Jackson and a fumble by Brady.

Next week, the Buccaneers will go on the road to face the Denver Broncos. The Panthers will also head west, to take on the Los Angeles Chargers.

These teams will meet again in Week 10 in Carolina on November 15.
