Tom Brady drops to 0-1 as the signal-caller for the Tampa Buccaneers, as he threw two interceptions in a 34-23 loss against the New Orlean Saints.

The Buccaneers were the first to score as Brady capped a nine-play 85-yard drive with a two-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter. The Saints responded by scoring 24 unanswered points in the second quarter and part of the third. Running back Alvin Kamara scored the first two touchdowns for the Saints, one through the air and one on the ground. Kamara got paid the day before, with a five-year $75 million extension. He finished with 16 rushing yards on 12 carries and 51 receiving yards on five catches.

The two future hall-of-fame quarterbacks weren’t spectacular in this game. Brady finished 23-for-36 with 239 passing yards, two touchdowns, and a QBR of 34.6. Brady also threw a pick-six to cornerback Janoris Jenkins in the third quarter. Drew Brees was 18-for-30 with 160 passing yards, two touchdowns, and a 72 QBR. Emmanuel Sanders caught the second touchdown pass from Brees in the fourth quarter from five yards out.

Part of the reason for the Saints’ victory was the pressure the front seven was able to force on Brady. They sacked him three times for a loss of 15 yards and had six quarterback hits.

Wide receiver Mike Evans played a limited role for Brady’s offense after being listed as questionable leading up to today’s game. He only had one catch for two yards on four targets.

The Buccaneers will look for win number one in the Brady-era next Sunday at home against the Carolina Panthers. The Saints will head to Vegas to play on Monday Night Football against the Las Vegas Raiders.

These two teams will face-off again on November 8 in Tampa Bay.
