NFL Thursday Night Showdown DFS Week 1by Brandon Braasch September 10, 2020 0 comments
It has been a long seven months since the last NFL game. That game ended with Patrick Mahomes leading the Kansas City Chiefs to their first Super Bowl since 1970. To kick things off in 2020 we get a rematch from last seasons AFC divisional series playoff game.
Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans head into Arrowhead to take on Mahomes and the Chiefs. Last season’s playoff game ended with Mahomes storming back and leading the Chiefs to the win after the Texans jumped out to an early 24-0 lead. Similar to that game this game should be another high scoring affair.
If you followed my showdown articles last year, then you will already be familiar with the layout. If not then welcome. As you will see below I’ll be providing my top players for each slate. You’ll see my top DraftKings Captain, FanDuel MVP, and some utility players. I hope you enjoy these articles and continue to check them out all season long for Thursday and Monday night showdowns. Good luck and go win some money.
David Johnson (DK Captain $11,400 l FD $11,500)
The Texans invested a lot in Johnson this offseason. His 2019 season was disappointing with the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals traded for Kenyan Drake and Johnson ultimately ended up getting benched. However, Johnson is a very good pass-catcher out of the backfield and he’s going to come out with a lot to prove this season. This game will be high scoring and Johnson will be apart of that whether it’s on the ground or in the air. Johnson will be key at the MVP slot because it will allow you enough salary to afford the two quarterbacks in this game.
Deshaun Watson (DK $11,800 | FD $15,000)
Watson is coming in fresh off his new four-year extension. Although, he will be without his former number one target in DeAndre Hopkins this year. However, he still has plenty of weapons around him. He’s going to make plays just like he did in the AFC divisional round. Watson put up 388 passing yards and two touchdowns in that game. If the Texans are going to win this game it will be because of Watson. Look for Watson to keep it close and put up some big numbers.
Patrick Mahomes (DK $12,600 | FD $16,500)
Mahomes was signed to a half a billion-dollar contract extension in the offseason. He can make all the throws and as he did against the Texans last season he can bring his team back from any deficit. In that comeback, he threw for five touchdowns as he led the Chiefs to the win en route to a Super Bowl. This game is going to be the battle of the quarterbacks and they are both worth paying up for in the showdown slates. Mahomes will show everyone once again in primetime why he got his huge contract.
Ka’imi Fairbairn (DK $3,600 | FD $9,000)
Fairbairn only needs seven to 10 fantasy points to provide value on this slate. It’s much easier to fit the superstar quarterbacks in your lineup with Fairbairn. He is not a risky play because the Texans are going to move the ball. Some of the Texan’s drives should stall out without having Hopkins in the red zone. Fairbairn averaged 6.9 fantasy points last year and in both games against the Chiefs last season, he scored six and seven points. He is a solid play.
That’s it for this week’s Thursday night showdown. Make sure to check out Monday night’s showdown article. Good luck with your lineups and enjoy the return of football!
