Will Kylian Mbappé’s Absence Affect Paris Saint-Germain?by Alex Al-Kazzaz July 27, 2020 0 comments
Earlier this week, Paris Saint-Germain played against AS Saint-Étienne in the Coupe de France final. Les Parisiens would win the match. Unfortunately, the victory turned out to be costly.
In the 33rd minute, PSG forward Kylian Mbappé suffered a serious injury to his ankle due to a very dangerous tackle committed by Saint-Étienne defender Loïc Perrin. This resulted in Perrin being ejected from the match and the tackle triggered a brawl between the two clubs.

Mbappé’s injury has been confirmed as a sprained ankle. In addition, further tests have revealed that Mbappé’s ankle has damage to the external ligament. The injury will prevent him from playing in PSG’s quarterfinals clash with Atalanta in the Champions League. He is expected to miss roughly three weeks.
Losing Mbappé to an injury is a major blow for Les Parisiens. Fortunately, while they will surely miss the very talented 21-year-old forward, PSG shouldn’t be too worried because Neymar and Mauro Icardi are still available to lead the offensive attack.
In PSG’s case, they must not let the loss of Mbappé get into their heads. In other words, they should not let his injury distract them and affect them. Long story short, as painful as the loss is, they need to forget about it. PSG must be in the right frame of mind in order for them to have the winning mentality they desperately need in order to keep their momentum alive.
Even with Mbappé’s injury, Les Parisiens have no excuse to not beat Atalanta. With the likes of Icardi, Neymar, and Ángel Di María available, there’s no doubt that PSG can stay alive.
On July 31, PSG will take on Olympique Lyonnais in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue. PSG’s Champions League quarterfinals clash with Atalanta is on Aug. 12.
