3 Takeaways From June 26 SmackDown

by June 30, 2020 0 comments

Last week saw the emergence of one superstar and the re-emergence of another. Matt Riddle and Bray Wyatt are looking to thrust themselves into the scene on SmackDown on FOX, particularly in the Intercontinental and Universal Championship conversations. Jeff Hardy battled King Corbin in the main event this week on the blue brand.

The Undertaker has likely wrestled his last match

The Undertaker debuted at Survivor Series on Nov. 22, 1990. The legacy The Undertaker has cemented is unrivaled compared to that of fellow wrestlers in the 30 years that have passed. The conclusion of The Last Ride came last Sunday and all night Michael Cole dropped phrases that signaled it was likely that The Deadman would not compete in a WWE ring again. This week’s edition of SmackDown was a tribute to The Undertaker’s career, and his WrestleMania 36 Boneyard Match against AJ Styles kicked off the show.

SmackDown women’s championship finds its next contender

Nikki Cross won a fatal four-way match that also featured her partner Alexa Bliss, Dana Brooke, and Lacey Evans. Bliss and Cross cleared the ring at the start of the match, and Cross attempted a quick roll-up that shocked her counterpart. The two shook hands and grappled until Evans pulled Bliss from the ring. Each woman found themselves taking on one another, and a woman’s right connected to Brooke. Cross rolled up Evans to steal the win and a championship match against Bayley at Extreme Rules: The Horror Show on July 19.

The next chapter between Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman progresses

The Universal Champion shot a promo in-ring during SmackDown in response to Wyatt’s return last week. The two former members of The Wyatt Family likely will compete against one another at Extreme Rules. Strowman defeated Wyatt at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view in May where Wyatt did not use his “Fiend” persona. However, during his promo last week, Bray became his Wyatt Family self and dressed similarly to when that was his character. Of course, Wyatt makes most of his current appearances as a member of the Firefly Fun House and wrestles as “The Fiend,” so it will be interesting to see which of the three he will utilize in the next page of his rivalry with Strowman.
