Could the Los Angeles Chargers Pursue Colin Kaepernick?

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been out of a job for a while. However, that could change soon because the Los Angeles Chargers might be interested in him.

Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said on Wednesday that teams would be crazy not to have Kaepernick on their workout list.

Lynn said he hasn’t talked to Kaepernick and wouldn’t say if Kaepernick was on the Chargers’ workout list.

“I haven’t spoken with Colin, not sure where he’s at as far in his career, what he wants to do,” Lynn said. “But Colin definitely fits the style of quarterback for the system that we’re going to be running. I’m very confident and happy with the three quarterbacks that I have, but you can never have too many people waiting on the runway.”

Kaepernick hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016 when he started kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial inequality and injustice.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says that he encourages teams to sign Kaepernick.

“Well, listen, if he wants to resume his career in the NFL, then obviously it’s going to take a team to make that decision,” Goodell told Mike Greenberg of ESPN. “But I welcome that, support a club making that decision and encourage them to do that.“

Kaepernick has thrown for 12,271 yards with 72 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in his career. While Kaepernick might be a good fit for the Chargers, they already have three signal-callers in Tyrod Taylor, Justin Herbert, and Easton Stick. If the Chargers were to sign Kaepernick, they would have to get rid of at least one of their quarterbacks.
